Internship in Technology Risk Management

The Internal Audit and Investigations Group (IAIG) improves operations by providing independent and impartial assurance and advice. IAIG supports the achievement of UNOPS’ (The United Nations Office for Project Services) objectives by strengthening the accountability system through the provision of internal audit, investigation, and advisory services.

Operational support

Under the overall dual supervision of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and the Data Analytics Officer, the Intern will provide support to the IAIG department.

In carrying out this overall function, the Intern will assist in/with:

• conducting and documenting risk and control assessments of the UNOPS information technology systems;
• identifying, collating, analyzing, and safekeeping of potential evidence;
• assisting with drafting reports and communications with respect to key audit and assessment areas;
• obtaining transaction data from UNOPS systems and analyzing for trends, patterns and anomalies;
• creating data dashboards, graphs and visualizations;
• attending IAIG team meetings; and
• other related functions as requested by the Manager(s) or their representatives.

Impact of Results

The role is expected to provide support for UNOPS’ delivery against its mandate and protecting UNOPS reputation. The effective and successful achievement of results by the Intern will contribute to the effective management of cyber risks as well as continuous assessment of transactions and processes across key high-risk information systems.

• To be eligible for this internship with UNOPS, you must be currently studying towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in one of the following fields: Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Assurance/Cybersecurity or Data Analytics. Otherwise, you should have completed a university degree in one of these fields within the past 3 years.

• Coursework in all or a combination of the following: cloud computing, database management/data analytics, computer programming, networking and information security;
• The candidate should have extensive knowledge of, and experience with, Microsoft Office programs, and particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
• SQL databases and querying languages;
• Python and associated libraries (TensorFlow, Numpy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn, etc.);
• Programming (e.g. XML, Javascript, D3, and .NET framework);
• Statistical methods and packages (e.g. SPSS)

• Full working knowledge of English;
• Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.

Interns are responsible for arranging their own travel and securing any necessary visas. This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend of 1000 USD per month from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lump sum of 500 USD. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel, insurance coverage and any necessary visas.
