Resource Mobilization Intern

The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) was established in 1990 and mandated by name in United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES/45/181.The WSSCC Secretariat is hosted by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and aims to accelerate the achievement of sustainable sanitation, hygiene and water services for all people, with special attention to the unserved poor, by enhancing collaboration and coordination of all sector stakeholders. The WSSCC Secretariat is located in Geneva, Switzerland. More information on WSSCC (also known as ‘the Council’) can be found on the website at www.wsscc.org. The Council is unique in having members from across the world. These individuals come from a diverse background and have considerable influence in the domain. Governance of the Council is through its Steering Committee. 

The Directorate of WSSCC is looking for a dynamic and motivated intern that will support staff tasks related to strategic donor relations management and donor outreach (current and potential) in a fast-paced environment. Potential donors encompass governmental donors, private sector, foundations and international financing institutions as well as innovative financing modalities. The intern will primarily be responsible to support donor research, intelligence gathering of funding trends, in-depth research on target donors, and preparation of materials in support of outreach activities. The latter will involve assistance to the development of tailored fundraising materials, making the case of investment for WSSCC to target donors.

• Assist with conducting research on Official Development Assistance (ODA) funding trends in view of the development of partnerships with development partners and non-state actors (e.g. foundations, philanthropic giving)
• Contribute to monitoring of new initiatives, events and innovative financing opportunities related to WSSCC’s mandate and associated Sustainable Development Goals such as gender equality, education, health and climate change
• Support the preparation of tailored marketing and pitch materials targeting current and potential donors and the preparation of ad hoc input to queries of partners
• Contribute to the preparation of briefing notes for WSSCC management and Board
• Support the preparation of business cases and programme proposals targeting current and potential donors
• Assist with coordination of general fundraising-oriented activities such as campaigns, round-tables and other events
• Conduct research and duties as requested contributing towards the implementation of the Resource Mobilization Strategy
• Perform other duties as requested by the Resource Mobilization Team and the wider WSSCC office

Training components

UNOPS thus provides a wealth of opportunities for on-the-job training, studying project-related documents, data analysis and preparation of reports and statistics. UNOPS encourages the intern to raise specific wishes regarding learning opportunities before and during the internship.

• All applicants must be enrolled in a Master’s Degree or Ph. D. program (or equivalent); or have graduated from such studies and a Bachelors Degree within three (3) years prior to the application date of the internship.
• Area of study and interest should be preferably one of the following: Public Health, Business Administration, Development Studies, Marketing, Social Sciences, Political Science, Communications, partnership or related fields.

Experience

• Applicants are not required to have professional work experience but some international work experience and exposure is desirable.
• Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite is essential, in particular Excel proficiency. 

Languages

Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French will be highly desirable. Working knowledge of other UN languages would be considered an asset.
