UNOPS in Georgia

UNOPS Georgia was established in mid-2018 to support, develop and oversee UNOPS’s growing portfolio in the country. The office currently provides implementation services to several projects where UNOPS works closely with development partners and the Government of Georgia, focusing on education, security, and healthcare sectors. 

UNOPS Georgia is focused on providing efficient and cost-effective implementation services on behalf of all our partners to support the Government of Georgia achieve its national priorities through citizen-oriented programmes and projects. The UNOPS Georgia office operates under the operational support of the Austrian Multi-Country Office (AUMCO). 

The UNOPS office is based in Tbilisi, Georgia with all project sites currently in Tbilisi.

Under the supervision and guidance of the Project Manager but in direct and  Close Coordination with the Director of the School of Europe Tbilisi,  on all matters, the Curriculum Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the School of Europe Tbilisi National Curriculum is an integrated programme with European and international best practices showcased. 

Cooperate with the subject experts of the Ministry of Education and Science and Youth of Georgia. The focus is on finalising a curriculum of excellence, training and monitoring teachers to develop and deliver it and assessing if the learning objectives have been met via a purpose built student assessment model and a teacher appraisal process. Further, the Curriculum Coordinator will support and promote “Student Agency’ and ‘Parent education’ in terms of ongoing liaison with parents to deepen their understanding of and commitment to the school’s education programmes. 

The Coordinator is a role-model to enable and uphold the highest standards of 21st century teaching and learning, to provide support to students and teachers and to ensure compliance with National Curriculum requirements developed and finalized to the high international standard required.
  • Finalize, vertical Curriculum Maps (VMs), Unit Sequence Planners (USPs) and work with teachers to finalize supplementary and provisional lists of resources/books.
  • Assessments for each unit detailed in the Unit Plan.
  • Support finalization of Curriculum Policies which defines knowledge and understanding of skills and competencies each student must master. 
  • Run workshops with the SMEs to further teacher understanding of modern teaching methodologies in line with the school mission and vision
  • Interdisciplinary planning - lead discussion and document the interdisciplinary learning opportunities that have been identified.
  • Ensure competencies and student attitudes and values are captured in Unit Plans.
  • Lead the development of the school curriculum and cooperate with independent evaluators as appointed or contracted by the Board or through the IB approval processes, on its implementation
  • Working to create and implement a professional development plan for teachers. 
  • Prepare the incorporation of appraisal and targets for teachers.
  • Collaborate with the school director/principal and staff to facilitate the recruitment process of both local and international teachers.
  • Regarding the International Baccalaureate (IB) Component and until an International Principal is recruited it is the intention to proceed with IB authorization. The candidate should have full knowledge of and experience in the Authorization process.

Methodology:
  • Lead and support subject teachers in the development of subject programs that align with the National Curriculum (in the National stream) and with the requirements of the IB (in the English-medium stream), enriching them with European values and international best practices in education.
  • Cooperate with National and international Curriculum Experts.
  • Support teachers to embrace the best teaching practices, incorporate a variety of effective learning resources, utilise high-quality textbooks, and explore relevant articles. 
  • Encourage and ensure collaborative practices within and between subject areas.
  • Keep the National Director consistently informed of all developments.
  • Prepare reports as agreed to the National Director of the School; and monthly reports with timesheets and Quarterly reports to UNOPS in a format to be agreed.
  • Contribute to marketing initiatives to promote the school and improve its reputation.

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) preferably in or at a closely related area of education is required. 
  • A first-level university degree in education (Bachelor’s or equivalent) preferably from an accredited university in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree
  • IB Programme Leader (IBEN member) as added value

Experience

  • Minimum five years of experience in managing educational matters at management level is required. 
  • Experience analyzing education issues and conducting research in accordance to international standards is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of international and local education and regulations is required. 
  • Proficiency in drafting reports and ability to draft accurately, clearly and concisely under time pressure.

Language Requirements

  • Proficiency in English and Georgia, written and spoken.

Contract duration: Up to 200 working days within 1 year, subject to available funds and satisfactory performance.

Terms and Conditions 

  • For staff positions only, UNOPS reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post. 

  • For retainer contracts, you must complete a few mandatory courses ( they take around 4 hours to complete)  in your own time, before providing services to UNOPS. Refreshers or new mandatory courses may be required during your contract. Please note that you will not receive any compensation for taking courses and refreshers.
