1. Lead, coordinate and manage the development and implementation of a corporate communication, advocacy and branding strategy in line with corporate goals and priority areas. Working with external and internal stakeholders and service providers on a strategy and action plan for a three years implementation period.
Key results (next 12 months):
- An updated communication, advocacy and branding strategy is submitted;
- Communication activities are being programmed in the Medium Term Strategy of the CA;
- A three year action plan outlining the communication and advocacy activities of the Cities Alliance is developed.
2. Manage and coordinate the organization of all CA events. Working with external service providers and in coordination with the CA team to ensure that the Cities Alliance is present with own contributions at global events, such as the World Urban Forum, Africities, Common Wealth Government Forum, etc. Additionally, lead the establishment of a bimonthly Cities Alliance Forum in Brussels providing a regular outreach event for European and local constituencies.
Key results (next 12 months):
- Establishment of a schedule for the Cities Alliance Forum in Brussels and ensure its implementation;
- Organization of the official CA launch in Europe;
- Plan and implement contributions of the CA to the Metropolis World Congress October 2014 in Hyderabad (India).
3. Design, implement and manage the production and dissemination of all CA communication material. Supervise and liaise with suppliers to produce any CA related publications including content management, norms for photography, video production, publishing, design, and liaison with printers. Development of corporate communication materials, including brochures, briefing materials, donor bulletins, brochures, factsheets, banners, updated information leaflets and press releases, for CA in coordination with relevant staff members.
Key results (next 12 months):
- Establishment of a production pipeline for CA publications including the identification and contracting of vendors;
- Coordinate the development of a scoping exercise for CA’s dissemination channels and establish a permanent system for disseminating communication and knowledge material to targeted audiences, such as for stakeholders in Country Programmes
- Ensure the production and delivery of regular CA periodicals to targeted audiences, such as for the Quarterly E-Newsletter, CIVIS, etc.;
- Provide substantive inputs to the CA annual and first effectiveness report and ensure its production.
4. Manage the maintenance of the CA website and other social media channels. Supervise the design and maintenance of the CA website based on corporate requirements in cooperation with relevant staff members including generation, preparation and editing of content for the web sites to ensure material is consistent and up to date under effective use of social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc)
Key results (next 12 months):
- Identify and contract a vendor for maintaining the CA website;
- Content for the CA website permanently produced and published;
- CA Social Media Channels updated and maintained.
5. Take the lead in the production of Short Stories and diverse communication materials for various outreach channels and audiences, especially the media. Provides support to CA Programme Unit to boost visibility and awareness on CA projects including identification of storylines for publications and lessons contributing to debates on key development issues and addressing problematic coverage; Compiling specialized media coverage press packages for projects as deemed necessary and planning dissemination to strategic target audiences. Promotion and dissemination of corporate advocacy materials for launching flagship initiatives and publications with relevant staff members; Arrange media briefings and trips and respond effectively to inquiries to media as well as for public information materials.
Key results (next 12 months):
- Develop a press kit/extended CA brochure on the CA and its operations;
- Write up to three press releases in the next 12 months on key CA events;
- A story of Cities Alliance Country Programme appears at least once a year in the national press in the respective partner country;
- Provide cross support to staff members attending global events.
Impact of results
Enhanced visibility and recognition of the Cities Alliance as a global partnership and of the key policy areas of the organization. Improved communication within the partnership and beyond that leads to stronger ownership by members and partners; and increased level of access of information on CA’s work including cutting edge project outputs, lessons learnt, etc. by its own constituencies as well as a wider set of local and global audiences.
