The Europe and Central Asia Regional Office (ECR) supports UNOPS offices throughout the region through: management, financial and programmatic oversight of global and country-specific portfolios, clusters and operations centres, including hosting services; fund and management advisory services; project implementation; procuring goods and services; and managing human resources.

ECR ensures that projects are executed to the highest standards, providing a shared knowledge base and ensuring that best practices and lessons learned are disseminated between business units and projects across the entire region.

ECR strategy is to:

• Strengthen UNOPS role in operationalizing the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Strengthen the implementation of ECR global and regional programmes, with revitalized partnerships in infrastructure, procurement and project management.

ECR operates global portfolios from offices in Geneva, Brussels and New York, and country-specific programmes from its operations and project centres located in Eastern Europe and Central Asian countries.

Based in the New York, the UNOPS Development Group Cluster supports diverse partners with their peacebuilding, humanitarian and development operations. For example, within the United Nations Development Programme, the Cluster works with the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support and the Office of South-South Cooperation.

The cluster also supports the United Nations Secretariat, as well as a broadening community of other New York-based United Nations organizations in the delivery of project management and implementation services

ReliefWeb is a humanitarian information web site, operated by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Its mandate is to strengthen the response capacity of the humanitarian relief community through the timely dissemination of reliable information on response, preparedness and disaster prevention.

ReliefWeb is seeking individual contractors experienced in humanitarian and web content information management to boost ReliefWeb’s ability to gather and curate relevant content, as well as help develop and document the evolving editorial approach.

The individual contractor is expected to provide service during hours of operation specified in accordance with the operational needs. This position requires the individual contractor to work during standard office hours in the Americas time zone, minimum 30 hours per week and up to 6 days per week including Saturdays and/or Sundays.

Under the direct supervision of the ReliefWeb Editor and the overall guidance of the Chief Editor based in New York, the contractor is expected to provide content coverage, drawing on a) a good understanding of web content management systems, principles of information management and familiarity with the information needs of the humanitarian community; and b) specialised language skills, regional and/or thematic experience for improved content handling.

Specific tasks require the contractor to:

●    Provide content management support, including:

• Identifying relevant content from existing and new information sources; apply approved taxonomy and editorial guidelines; ensure important content is highlighted on site and through delivery mechanisms;
• Seeking out relevant humanitarian content from new sources, including social media networks
• Quality control and verification of content as required
• Providing regional or thematic coverage, drawing on language skills and regional experience.

●    Make recommendations on how to improve the content editorial process, and, in particular, how to adapt this in light of the technological improvements.

●    Perform other duties, such as related side projects, as required.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, preferably with additional experience.
• A high school diploma with four years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.

Experience:

• Understanding of web content management systems including the use of taxonomy and content classification is desirable;
• Experience and fair knowledge of managing websites (basic html, markdown) and file management is desirable;
• Strong interest in international affairs, including emergency response, disaster management, peacebuilding and peacekeeping, conflict resolution, human rights and IHL is desirable;
• Knowledge of the international humanitarian coordination system, including key actors in emergency response is desirable;
• Knowledge of humanitarian issues in specific countries, regions or themes is desirable;
• Experience working as part of a virtual team is desirable.

Language:

• Written and spoken fluency in English is mandatory.
• Working knowledge of another UN language (French and/or Spanish) is an asset.

Additional Considerations

• Ability to work with minimum supervision, as well as in a team is necessary;
• Flexibility in work days depending on the requirements by time zones and for the 24/7 coverage is needed;
• Ability to work off-site while maintaining communication with the editors through online communication tools is necessary;
• Access to computing assets adequate for discharge of duties is required.
• Legally eligible to work in the United States (if based in New York).
