KOICA Kenya- Vocational Centre and Primary Schools Project” is being implemented by UNOPS on behalf of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (“KOICA”). KOICA is the Government agency tasked with the efficient management of grant aid for the Republic of Korea under the Official Development Assistance Programme.

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to economic development of Kenya through the renovation of Mombasa Industrial Training Centre (NITA-MITC) and the enhancement of training capacity and management skills of the National Industrial training Authority (NITA). The project also aims at upgrading the teaching environment, the quality of primary education and enhancement of the capacity of ICT- based primary education in Kenya.

The implementation works are to be executed in 3no. sites: NITA-MITC in Mombasa and 2no. primary schools in Nairobi. NITA-MITC works will consist of renovations (inclusive of extensive electrical and mechanical works) and equipment installation. The primary schools’ works will consist of construction of ICT Innovation Centres and improvement of the environment of the project sites.

The 1no. Site Inspector Intern (to be based in Nairobi) will support the project’s implementation. He/ she will do the direct monitoring and reporting of the construction activities that are being undertaken by the contractors and liaise with contractors on the ground.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the guidance and supervision of the Building Engineer, the Site Inspector Intern provides support to the Building Engineer with the day-to-day contract supervision of the sites and reporting site progress and implementation. He/she will be responsible for providing the necessary technical expertise to ensure compliance with the contract requirements for quantity and quality of the works undertaken by the contractor.

In order to carry out his/her tasks, the Site Inspector Intern will be required to daily attend to the site where works are implemented.
