Associate Geospatial Information Officer (Image Analyst)

The Associate Geospatial Information Officer (Image Analyst) will carry out his/her tasks within DFS/ICTD Geospatial Information Section.

Under the overall supervision of UNOPS DFS Global Programme Manager, the incumbent will work under Chief Geospatial Information Section or a designated officer and responsible for providing cartographic and geospatial products.

The Associate Geospatial Information Officer (Image Analyst) will be responsible for the following duties:

-          Perform analysis based on a variety of sources such as satellite imagery, aerial photograph, geospatial information, internal memos and reports, open source intelligence and others;

-          Perform raster data processing;

-          Perform vector data edition;

-          Perform day-to-day liaison work with clients to understand and articulate short and medium term requirements;

-          Develop innovative geospatial products and visuals to convey the results of the analysis;

-          Maintain geodatabase and catalogue of imagery post-processed derivative works.

-          Conduct peer-review and quality control of GIS and imagery products prepared by other colleagues.

-          Document workflows and processes.

-          Perform other tasks as required. 

Professionalism: Technical qualification of remote sensing, geospatial information systems (GIS), earth science, geography, cartography and its related matters; experience in groundwater exploration; knowledge and skill in Remote Sensing for processing various satellite imagery; ability to understand cartographic and GIS production and mapping; good presentation skills; Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations. Education:

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Cartography, Geography, Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), or related fields. A first-level university degree  (Bachelor's degree) in combination with an additional two (2) years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

-          At least 2 years of experience in GIS, remote sensing, imagery analysis, geospatial analysis or related fields is required.

-          Professional knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop (v10), ERDAS Imagine, relational databases (MS SQL Server) is required.

-          Professional experience as an imagery analyst, preferably in a military or humanitarian context is required.

-          Good written and verbal communication skills is required..

-          Professional experience of digital cartography in a GIS environment is required.

-          Basic  graphics software skills (e.g Adobe Suite) to prepare final touches of the digital cartography prepared in a GIS environment is required.

-          Professional experience in statistical analysis using enterprise office software (e.g. MS Excel, MS Access) is required.
-          Python scripting, preferably in ArcGIS environment is desirable.

-          Infographic and Graphics experience using enterprise graphics software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop) is desirable.

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this job opening, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
