The Director
of Communications will be supervised through individual meetings with the
supervisor, weekly team meetings, and through periodic performance appraisals.
Duties and
Accountabilities
The
Director of Communications is a member of the Management Team and responsible
for evolving the place communications plays in delivering on its mission. This
includes developing the strategic communications of SEforALL across its
workplan and positioning in the landscape of organizations working to achieve
the SDGs in the context of the Paris Agreement. Specifically, the director will
manage a team to deliver internal and external communication, across all media
platforms of SEforALL and maintain and develop a broader coalition of
communications operatives working in partner organizations towards the same
goals, enhancing messaging and coordination.
Heading
a small team, working across offices of SEforALL in Vienna and Washington, DC, the
Communications Director ensures that communications is integral to all
strategic planning and activities of SEforALL, including how to use and
position Board and Advisory Board and other institutional assets. S/he is also
expected to participate, as needed and directed, in management and staff
meetings together with the Director of Partnerships to make sure strategic
priorities are reflected in communications that travel across among all
stakeholders.
The
Director of Communications will be expected to represent the organization at a
senior level, engaging with partners and other organizations and fora to secure
collaboration, uptake of messaging and enhancement of SEforALL’s brand value
and ability to deliver on its objectives. The Director will forge strong
partnerships and find ways for the messaging, ideas and stories developed in
SEforALL and with our partners to enhance delivery against the goals by broader
audiences.
As a
senior professional within the management team of the organization, S/he is to
lead, enable and inspire the communications team as well as actively engage in
coaching and developing staff and managing their performance with high level of
integrity and tact and acting as a leader and role model for the rest of the organization.
In
addition to the above, The Director of Communications will be responsible and
focus on the following issues:
- Supervising
a team that covers media relations, digital communications, and creative
services.
- Developing
and implementing strategic communications plans.
- Directing and managing
organizational efforts to ensure timely preparation of high quality
communications materials including but not limited to press releases,
op-eds, fact sheets, website content, blog posts, white papers, speeches,
and talking points.
- Directing and managing the
development of content for the website and social networking sites as an
invaluable source of information and knowledge dissemination; collaborating
with policy and partnerships staff to ensure coordinated strategy and protocols
for content placement.
- Creating and executing a strategy
for using events and conferences to advance the organizations objectives among
target audiences; organize and oversee the success of speaking opportunities,
conference communications, events, and exhibits.
- Securing positive high visibility
of SEforALL among key stakeholders, including the media, policymakers, opinion
leaders, and partner organizations.
- Ensuring that
the visibility strategy is enhanced by partner agreements and is respected
across all platforms of SEforALL.
- Ensuring and
strengthening SEforALL’s capacity to communicate with partners and
organizations in the movement in multiple languages.
Ensuring SEforALL has
the technological and IT capability to further build and sustain strong
internal and external communications.
