Web and Graphic Design Consultant

The UN Electric stands for the United Nations Electricity Supply Partnership, a new multi-national public-private partnership, developed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment), the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and several specialist energy institutes and not-for-profit organizations.

UN Electric seeks to help address the persistent low levels of access to grid quality and sustainably sourced electricity that many countries and communities face. It aims to do so by upgrading the electrical power supplies for the thousands of off-grid facilities currently operated by the foreign aid community globally, as well as by supporting developing countries that host off-grid facilities in both the development and financing of modern electricity supply infrastructure projects, and an associated local supply chain and skilled workforce.

Under the guidance of the UNOPS coordinator for UN Electric, the consultant is primarily responsible for the development and design of the UN Electric website and all related visual and print graphic design materials.

The consultant will work in close collaboration with the entire UN Electric team and relevant project country offices. The accountability for the assigned deliveries will be managed by the incumbent with clear agreement with the supervisor in the organizational and functional contexts.

The position will entail working with the work stream substantive leads, UN Electric manager, partnership and technical team and other external stakeholders to produce technical output.

Key Functions:

• Assist with the design of the main structure as well as site map and wire frames of pages for the UN Electric website, and upload content

• Support the creation of graphics, images and other visual material including for any online campaigns

• Develop, design and assemble final layouts for ready-to-print (pdf) offline materials such as brochures, summary reports, posters, etc.

• Support with the development of branding elements (stationary, presentation templates, powerpoint slides, logos, etc.)

• Create and adapt graphic material for social media, as needed

• Suggest options and techniques i.e. user friendly interfaces/interaction

• Proofreading to ensure accurate, high-quality work

• Provide guidance to the UN Electric team on performing routine content updates

• Provision of technical support including managing email lists and newsfeed.


The successful candidate will be working in a virtual team. They would be expected to demonstrate professionalism and a strong work ethic; ability to work on their own under minimal supervision; flexibility and willingness to assist.

Skills :

Graphic design and production skills including development of infographics, images, animation, e-banners, etc. 

In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media and web platforms, with demonstrated experience generating engaging content is desirable. 

Familiarity with design software- Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Power Point, MS Word, etc.
