Social Media Analyst

The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) was established in 1990 and mandated by name in United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES/45/181.The WSSCC Secretariat is hosted by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and aims to accelerate the achievement of sustainable sanitation, hygiene and water services for all people, with special attention to the unserved poor, by enhancing collaboration and coordination of all sector stakeholders. Reporting to the Head, Corporate Communications and Media, the Social Media Analyst is an exciting and vital role which will help define WSSCC’s current and future digital ecosystem, including the re-design of the existing website, and coordinating WSSCC’s presence and content on digital properties to maximise collaboration, community, shareability and impact. The Analyst will also design and implement global social media campaigns and direct marketing and communications with WSSCC and its partners inside and outside of the UN system, advising the organization on outreach and social media opportunities to advance WSSCC’s narrative and that of the broader WASH sector.  Utilizing the unique reach of digital communication platforms, the Social Media Analyst helps amplify the local experience, impact and human face of WSSCC operations in 15 countries in East and West Africa and South and Southeast Asia, as well as the work of some 5,000 members in 150 countries. The content generated for the digital ecosystem is also selectively curated for targeted dissemination in other paid, earned shared and owned channels, including print materials. The Social Media Analyst will engage with relevant groups, including the UNCG Social Media Managers’ Group, to leverage the latest learning and collaborative approaches in multi-channel communications.

• Under the guidance of the Communications Manager and with inputs from partnership, membership and programme teams, propose and implement a social media strategy and work plan.

• Initial development and effective implementation of global and local social media campaigns for special events and topics, especially around WSSCC’s contribution to SDG 6.2.

• Expand WSSCC’s global online platform, oversee online accounts and corporate platforms, including active engagement with all audiences including national counterparts, donors, membership and organizational partners creating a dialogue that realizes WSSCCs local-to-global and global-to-local principle.

• Coordinate social media around corporate events, including drafting of an outreach plan, live tweeting and online engagement with participants.

• In collaboration with membership and outreach teams, support their efforts to build new audiences that can raise awareness of WSSCC’s work and mobilize funds.

• Collect and analyze social media metrics to gauge reach, engagement and other performance measures for social media posts, accounts and campaigns, helping to inform Communications Officer prepare communication strategy.

• Under the guidance of the communicatgions Officer and other subject matter owners, curate content for specific, targeted hard copy publications in support of the overall communications strategy; collaborate with external media contractors for quality, design and production of materials. 

• Monitor corporate platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

• Provide technical guidance and train WSSCC staff worldwide on best practices around using social media for outreach and advocacy, including photo gathering and editing, graphic creation and presentation.

• Develop and maintain close working relationships with regional programme teams and national counterparts to ensure relevance of content.

• Develop peer relationships with social media specialists in other UN and development agencies to leverage and partner with collaborator online communications to expand WSSCCs presence.

• Master’s degree in Communications, International Relations/Public Affairs, Journalism, Media Arts, Marketing, Political Science or other related disciplines is required.

• A bachelor’s degree and two additional years relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the Master's degree.

• Two years with Master's degree or four years with Bachelor's degree of relevant experience in the area of Social Media Management or Communications or related fields is required.
• Experience with WordPress is an advantage.

• Demonstrated ability to learn and master new knowledge, information in substantive content areas and in relationships with colleagues.
• Ability to adopt to changing technologies and the changes in the social media environment.
• Ability to promote innovative ideas and changes in a proactive manner.
• Strong client orientation, planning and organization skills necessary.
• Keen attention to detail, able to prioritize and process large volumes of work.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good organizational skills and sound judgment.
• Adapt at working in a team environment but must be able to show initiative and ability to work independently.
