Partnerships and Knowledge Management Analyst

Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The overall objective of the UN Environment's Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities (http://www.unep.org/dtie/).

The Resources and Markets Branch leads work central to UN Environment's Resource Efficiency sub-programme and to the global sustainable consumption and production (SCP) agenda - delivering scientific, credible, innovative solutions to make sustainability central in government policy frameworks, business direction-making and in peoples’ lives. Science is the basis of the Branch's work, applying system approaches, complimented by methods such as life cycle analysis, urban metabolism, participatory action research and integrated analysis. Interventions target improving value chains, procurement processes, food systems, and use education and leisure activities like tourism as agents of change.  The Branch works through an extensive network of stakeholders to ensure sustainability solutions are applicable at all levels, particularly addressing cities which are driving resource use patterns, and within the context of developing countries' needs.

The Consumption and Production Unit of UN Environment’s Economy Division promotes Resource Efficiency and Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in businesses worldwide with special focus on small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries and emerging economies.

Scope of support: Consumption and Production Unit, Sustainable Tourism program

The ICA will work with the Consumption and Production Unit of the Resources and Markets Branch. This post is located in UN Environment – Economy Division at the Paris duty station.

The Analyst will support the Tourism and Environment Programme in partnerships, knowledge management for the project ‘Transforming Tourism Value Chains in Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to Accelerate more resilient, resource efficient, low carbon development’.

Under the supervision of the Tourism and Environment Programme Officer/Head of Consumption and Production Unit, the ICA will have the following responsibilities:

1.       Assist in developing partnership and related communication strategy for the project

1. Support in Identifying key messages per audience and project phase
2. Support in identifying channels used to deliver messages, including existing UN Environment and partner communication channels

2.       Support in the development of general project campaigns and capacity building events to assist the low carbon and resource efficiency implementation

1. Assist in the coordination with partners (and their respective communications teams) the production of promotional project campaign and capacity building materials tailored to the local context
2. Support presentation development for workshops and capacity building (e.g. power points, factsheets, press kits - design & printed)

3.       Support in developing knowledge products and case studies

1. Support the systematization of knowledge products and methodologies developed in the context of the project through social media, infographics, campaigns: TVC map, GHG baseline methodology, Tools, etc….
2. Contribute in the preparation of case studies that reflect the project’s approach and progress

4.       Support campaign development and private sector engagement strategies

1. Liaise  with UN Environment communications team (and others) for , the development of sustainable consumption and production campaigns relevant for the project

5.       Assist project knowledge management interface and project documentation

1. Contribute the content of the collaboration space in the SCP Clearinghouse Exchange space and support in encouraging partner use and uptake of the tool
2. Elaborate, administer and make available project management related documentation (ie. Meeting Minutes, Interim products and reports, Project presentations)

6.       Promotion of UN Environment’s Sustainable Tourism Programme

1. Assist in the Development of presentation and communication materials for advocating and promoting sustainable tourism in international events, meetings or conferences
2. Support in the development of presentations of the Sustainable Tourism Programme and the One Planet Network
3. Support the Collaboration with international and intergovernmental organizations to promote sustainability within tourism industry

• Master's degree in communication, website edition, journalism, economics, sustainability, environment, or a related field (e.g. journalist specialised in sustainability or sustainability expert specialised in journalism / communication).   
• Or
• Bachelor's Degree in the same educational areas with 2 years of additional professional experience;

• Experience in environmental communications and knowledge of sustainable development.
• Prior experience of working in a UN environment is an asset;

• Fluency in English is required. 
• Knowledge of other UN Official Languages is an asset.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Project Management skills– Experience working with and coordinating internal and external partners in order to effectively gather, harmonize and utilize information relevant to different projects
• Analytical Skills – Experience extracting and analyzing data across a series of different parameters from both online and offline sources
• Communication – Ability to communicate with the diverse stakeholders of the Sustainable Tourism program
• Planning and organization skills;
• Experience in a developing country context would be an advantage
• Knowledge of the UN system is an advantage;
• Flexibility and adaptability to work under pressure and meet specific deadlines
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment
