Information Systems Officer

One of the key initiatives of the ICT Strategy of the United Nations is on analytics and business Intelligence (BI). The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) is providing analytics and BI solutions across the entities in the Secretariat to strengthen operational flexibility in support of the delivery of the entities’ mandates. As the Organization matures in its understanding of the potential of data-driven decision-making, the demand for analytics and BI services is increasing. The role of the Information Systems Officer is to be capable to assess requirements for analytics and BI platforms, deliver relevant analytics and BI solutions, and to contribute to the strategic direction, policy formulation and decision-making in this area.

Under the overall supervision of UNOPS Senior Portfolio Manager and UNOPS Technical Manager and the direct supervision of the OICT/Global Services Division’s Senior Information Systems Officer, the Information Systems Officer, will be responsible for the following duties:

• Analyze clients’ requirements, define data requirements, and translate into specifications for new applications
• Manage projects involving systems analysis, design, development and implementation of new analytics and business intelligence, and/or provide key inputs for the establishment of advanced BI solutions
• Engage with clients to build capacity for self-service analytics, develop training materials, operating and user manuals, and provide training in assigned solutions.
• Review emerging technologies and assesses their impact and usefulness
• Draft and contribute to Business Intelligence data governance and policies, and implement data governance procedures and tools
• Develop materials for business intelligence and analytics briefings, presentations and related communications materials to user groups and senior management
• Contribute to the implementation of the data architecture and data models
• Actively engage in data analyses and data modeling activities.

• Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in information systems, business administration, computer science or related fields is required.
• Qualification in Data Analytics is desirable.

Required

• A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible hands-on experience (after first academic degree) related to analytics or information systems.
• Knowledge of analytics and business intelligence for performance management and monitoring.
• Experience in conducting research of emerging needs and drafting related briefing notes and/or similar communication materials.

Preferred

• End to end experience of analyzing analytics and business intelligence requirements and delivering solutions.
• Knowledge of the substantive work of the United Nations.

• English and French are the working languages of the UN. For this job opening, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
