Within delegated authority, the
Power Engineer will apply technical engineering knowledge and expertise in
performance of the following duties:
- Act as
technical assistant in the engineering team reporting to the engineering
manager
- Assist in developing
feasibility studies and conceptual design of energy infrastructures systems
- Design
electrical systems for energy infrastructure projects including power
generation, power transformation and power transmission in LV and MV
- Provide
technical field support and site energy audits for installation of renewable
energy (e.g. solar PV, wind, energy storage) and conventional energy production
systems (e.g. diesel generators, gas turbines)
- Support and
troubleshoot installation of energy smart meters and dataloggers
- Analyze and
understand power and energy data to build up energy production and energy
consumption detailed models
- Write
technical reports including field assessment and energy system solution for
improvement of energy efficiency and reduction of footprint.
- Support the
customer technical team and with contractors to install and operate energy
production, transformation and transmission facilities
- Help in
energy project planning and development
Results
Expected
Provide technical
support and electrical engineering inputs within the engineering team. Develop
micro grid projects (from feasibility to installation). Deliver field support
and technical assistance to customers. Research and implement the best solution
for smart energy metering including billing and remote system set up. Assist
the electrical and mechanical engineering scope of project implementation and
commissioning phases.
Monitoring and Progress Controls
The engineer is expected to travel 50% or more
during the assignment to remote locations (including but not limited to Central
Africa, Middle-East, Central America).
Additional travel might be required to GSC in
Brindisi, Italy. UNEP and UNOPS will organize and fund all business-related
travel. Travel from Geneva to New York (if applicable) will also be paid upon
contract signature.
The contractor will have dual reporting lines with
the Project Manager of REACT in Geneva acting in a technical oversight role and
the Head of the Environment unit in DFS in New York providing DFS specific
context and strategic guidance.
At the start of the appointment the consultant will
develop a detailed work plan including expected deliverables and timelines.
Progress will be rated against the work plan and the interim deliverables.
