Background Information Office of the Regional Director, Asia Region

UNOPS provides its services through a global network of regional offices, operational hubs and operations and project centres. The Office of the Regional Director for the Asia Region (AR ORD) in Bangkok, Thailand, was established in 2015 to oversee and enable efficient and effective delivery of support to partners in the Asia Region in line with the UNOPS corporate strategy. Currently, over 700 personnel are working on UNOPS projects in diverse and complex environments across the Asia Region.

Background Information - Job-specific

We are currently looking for an Intern to join our dynamic and diverse team in the AR ORD in Bangkok. The Intern shall contribute to the ORD’s internal and external stakeholder engagement, communication and coordination activities in order to support knowledge management, project development and to contribute to increasing UNOPS visibility in the Asia Region.

In addition, the intern will support the Senior Advisor with specific activities relating to partnership development with Government of Japan, with an emphasis on the Asia Region. The intern may also be required to support partnership development activities with other important donors to the region.

Responsibilities will include:

• Support stakeholder engagement and communications with Government of Japan focal points in the Asia Region;
• Support the development and coordination of content for Asia Region communications tools, such as the AR Blog;
• Coordination support for meetings, local events, workshops and other activities;
• Support ongoing monitoring and mapping of opportunities and current and pipeline projects;
• Support ongoing efforts to highlight and document stories and content from UNOPS projects in order to document best practices, and contribute towards knowledge management;
• Support the Asia Region Team to gather and collate information on new partners and potential new engagements; and,
• Assist in the development of reports, talking points and presentations as required.
• Support the team with internal coordination between country offices and the Regional office on new engagements and ensure that expert advice is obtained from advisors on a timely basis.

Reporting Lines:

• The intern will report to the AR Senior Advisor.
• The intern shall be provided with a weekly work plan, with inputs from ORD at regular planning meetings.

Education:

• Applicants must be pursuing a university degree, such as a Masters, or be a recent graduate from such studies (within the last 1 year).
• Preferred area of study is one of the following: Business Administration, International Affairs, International Development, or Social Sciences.             
  
  

Experience:

• While no professional experience is required for an internship, some professional experience in the field of Human Resources, Change Management, Learning and Development, International Development, Policy, Administration, Business Process Management, or other relevant field is an asset. 
• Strong computer literacy: MS Office standard programs essential, in particular familiarity with Excel is required. 

Language requirements:

• Fluency in written and oral English is required.
• Fluency in written and oral Japanese is highly desired.
• Knowledge of a second UN language would be an asset.
