The UN Somalia Risk Management Unit (RMU) has been established to support all United Nations entities working in Somalia, as well as partners and donors. This unit works within the Office of the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, which ensures independence and impartiality.  The RMU is unique within the United Nations system and has made considerable progress in advancing the risk management agenda for the UN in Somalia.

In July 2012 and June 2013, the Monitoring Group Report on Somalia and Eritrea noted the work of the RMU as a best practice and many other countries are learning from its experience and replicating RMU functions, tools and expertise such as UN Afghanistan, UN Syria and other countries.

The Risk Management Unit (RMU) Somalia develops and manages various technological tools to share information across the UN Somalia system towards the overall management of partner/vendor related risk. One of the platforms is the Contractors Information Management System (CIMS) that captures various types of information and risk related data uploaded by the UN Agencies and Risk Management Unit.

The RMU CIMS database also holds information relating to the Somali and Eritrea Monitoring Group (SEMG) reports which are presented regularly to the Security Council.

To capture the latest information from SEMG reports, the RMU is looking for an experienced researcher with an ability to synthesize information contained within the most recent report (S/2017/924) published by the SEMG; extract and upload this information into the CIMS database in an appropriate format to be provided by the RMU.

The period of contract will be up to maximum of 60 working days through four months period with tentative starting date 01 March 2018.  The incumbent could work remotely. Access to communications media (Skype, Google Hangout) and internet is mandatory.
