Intern Project Management, Multiple positions

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Interns will be based in Juba, South Sudan with frequent field visits to the project sites. He/she will be responsible for the coordination and support to the project team as well as assisting in the coordination of ongoing continuous training programmes.

General Functions

• Support project planning, particularly in the logistics and procurement elements of project support;
• With coaching from their supervisor, participate in identifying, mitigating, and monitoring project risks;

• Support in preparing technical specifications, bidding documents; manage tendering process, tender evaluation and contractor selection;

• Provide support in internal and external reviews;
• Provide quality assurance support;
• Support the Operations Officer and the Facilities Managers in the development and delivery of staff on the job training programmes;
• Support to the Operations Officer and Logistics Manager in the daily support to the teams in the field, particularly in procurement and delivery;
• Support the Project Manager in ensuring strict and consistent application of UNOPS rules and regulations and ensure the implementation of clear accountability mechanisms within the project;

• Support in monitoring all project activities in relation to the respective project work plans and take corrective action, when necessary, to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of project outputs;

• Participate in lessons learned sessions;
• Identify ways to improve project processes or products with coaching from the project team.

The internship will also span broader aspects related to project management. The aim of the internship is to enhance the theoretical knowledge of the intern through substantive and operational engagement with sustainability practices and policies of the Organization. The intern should be willing to learn about UNOPS and its core business and intervention areas, the work environment, and the technical/functional aspects of the job. In addition, UNOPS expects the intern should do their best to contribute to the goals of the organization. Interns are not hired for their experience, they are hired to do entry level work and hopefully contribute something to the company while they are gaining work experience.

• Enrollment in a University Degree Programme such as Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. (or the equivalent) with a background in project management, logistics, procurement, social sciences, or similar. Or, have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the applications date of the internship.

• Fluency in written and spoken English required;
• Knowledge of second UN official language desirable;
• Fluency in one or more local languages in South Sudan desirable.
