Peace and Security Cluster

The UNOPS Peace and Security Cluster (PSC) is a principal service provider in the field of mine action with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UNDP, UNICEF, Governments of mine-affected countries and other mine action partners. The Head of Cluster is responsible to administer, provide support and oversight of the day-to-day management of the Project Field offices, both according to the client requirements and in line with UNOPS rules and regulations. It is headed by the Head of Cluster who has the overall authority and accountability for the performance of the Peace and Security Cluster on behalf of its clients.

The position is located in the Policy Section of United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) within the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO). For more information on UNMAS, please visit http://www.mineaction.org/unmas.

Under the supervision of a senior team member, the incumbent will be responsible for the following: 

Education

• Applicants should be enrolled in a university programmes such as Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D. (or equivalent); or have graduated from such studies within three years prior to the application date of the internship.
• Area of study should be preferably one of the following: political science,international relations, international law, public administration, or related fields

Work Experience

• While professional working experience is not required, work experience in political science, international relations or related area is desired

• Computer literacy in standard software applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required

• Demonstrated experience working with people of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs is required 

• The internship is for six (6) months and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
