ICT Associate – Solution Design (Internal Candidates Only)

The Office of Information and Communication Technology (OICT) is responsible for the delivery of  technology solutions that satisfy the requirements of the UN Secreteriat and the Department of Operations Support supported entities globally. OICT has implemented a range of systems to address the principal requirements of peacekeeping operations and to support and enhance the processes UN undertakes.

The ICT Associate – Solution Design plays lead developer role by providing technical guidance through his technical skills and experience. His contribution helps in support of making UN peace operations more effective and efficient; and creates synergies that emphasise on enhanced operational performance, impact and capacities through the introduction of thoughtful solutions to UN peacekeeping and field missions.

This is a position in UNOPS for supporting projects carried out for or in the United Nations Secretariat. The incumbent of this position will be a staff member of UNOPS under its full responsibility.

• Systems Analysis and Software Development

• Contribute on the development of enterprise wide Open Source projects and provide technical guidance to other team members;
• Provide support enhancing and troubleshooting existing enterprise Open Source applications;
• Contribute in the review and development of integration modules for Open Source web applications;
• Contribute in the planning, design and execution of application testing and release management;

• Systems Administration

• Lead the system administration of the internal servers and services required to perform development, tests and integration tasks;
• Provide support for technical documentation and deployment instructions;

•  Team Management  

• Assist the team lead on the workload coordination and tasks prioritization for the rest of the team members;

• Perform other IT related duties as required.

The results of the work of the ICT Associate – Solution Design impact directly on delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of the Department as well as the performance of these services implemented in the DOS supported entities, field missions and headquarters. It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations.

• Secondary education is required; 
• A university degree in information technology, computer science, information systems, telecommunications, mathematics, statistics or related field is highly desirable;

Required:

• A minimum of six (6) years of professional experience in design, development and implementation of enterprise-level IT solutions;
• A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in Linux System administration and/or architecture;
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience in database design and administration;
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience in System Analysis of complex IT systems;

Desirable:

• ITIL Foundation
• PRINCE 2 Foundation

• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second UN language is highly desirable.

Contract duration: One year initially, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability
