The UNOPS Peace and Security Cluster (PSC) is a principal service provider in the field of mine action with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UNDP, UNICEF, Governments of mine-affected countries and other mine action partners.  It is led by the Director, who has overall authority and accountability for the performance PSC on behalf of its clients.  The Director is responsible for administering and providing oversight of the day-to-day management of the Project Field offices, both according to the client requirements and in line with UNOPS rules and regulations.

The PSC Information Management and Analytics Team (IMAT) is responsible for the provision of services intended to maximize the value and insight harnessed from data and information, thereby helping to enable our partners to deliver their global mandates in mitigating the threat and impact of explosive hazards as part of PSC’s mission.  The IMAT’s key functional areas are (1) data collection and management; (2) business intelligence and analytics; and (3) knowledge management.

IMAT personnel are distributed geographically between Geneva and New York according to the primary functions of individual roles in order to maximize their integration and collaboration with clients and stakeholders.

A key IMAT initiative is implementation of a global information management system for UNOPS’ partner UNMAS, which is focused on digitalized workflows supporting the collection and analysis of high quality and consistent data across field programmes to facilitate decision making and information sharing.

Under the direct supervision of the PSC Senior Portfolio Manager / Global IM Advisor, daily responsibilities of the intern will depend on the individual’s background and specific duties may include but are not limited to:

• Lending support to projects and/or activities within the team, including but not limited to the global IM project; 

• Research, identify and test tools and resources to support collection, storage and analysis of data;

• Assist with the mapping of business processes and their implementation into the global IMS;

• Build information products (in particular maps and dashboards) to support the analysis of data and identification of trends to inform decision making;

• Contribute to the development of IM standards, processes and templates;

• Participate in discussions and the design of sustainable IM solutions

• Liaise with relevant internal and external partners as necessary; and

• Perform other related duties as required.

• Applicants must be enrolled in a university degree program such as Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D (or equivalent); otherwise, applicants must have graduated from such studies within three years of the application date 

• Area of study should preferably be one of the following: Data Analytics, Geographic Information Systems, Information Management, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field

• While professional working experience is not required, experience in using ArcGIS Enterprise and business intelligence tools is desired

• Fluency in English (reading, writing and speaking) is required
