Partnerships Manager

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has a Centre for Humanitarian Data in The Hague, the Netherlands which is focused on increasing the use and impact of data in the humanitarian sector. The Centre’s vision is to create a future where everyone involved in a humanitarian emergency has access to the data they need, when and how they need it, to make responsible and informed decisions.

The Centre is focused on four areas: data services, data responsibility, data literacy, and predictive analytics. The data services workstream includes the management of the Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX) platform, the development and use of the Humanitarian Exchange Language data standard, and support to the International Aid Transparency Initiative. The data responsibility workstream focuses on the development and adoption of data responsibility guidelines and different techniques for the secure management of sensitive data, both within OCHA and the broader humanitarian system. The data literacy workstream offers in-person and remote training opportunities for improving the data skills of technical and non-technical humanitarians. The predictive analytics workstream focuses on model development, including threshold and trigger design, and quality assurance of partner models through validation and a peer review process.

The Centre requires the support of a Partnerships Manager to lead our engagement with key stakeholders including donors, governments, humanitarian organizations, the private sector and academic institutions. The work will involve producing frequent events, developing and promoting outreach material, and maintaining a network of partners in support of the Centre’s mission. We are looking for a candidate who is self-motivated and can thrive in an international, multidisciplinary team. The right candidate has the skills and abilities to maintain our existing strategic partnerships and develop new ones that can strengthen the Centre’s work in the coming years.

Reporting Relationships
The Partnerships Manager will report to the Lead for the Centre for Humanitarian Data who is based in The Hague. They will be expected to work closely with the rest of the Centre’s geographically-distributed team.

-         Manage and coordinate all in-person and remote/online events and workshops that are hosted by the Centre; support and promote events in which Centre personnel are participating.

-         Identify, assess, and secure strategic partners (funding, in-kind contributions, expertise) to ensure the successful implementation of the Centre’s results framework.

-         Develop and oversee the Centre’s partnerships with the private sector including coordinating due diligence processes and navigating legal agreements.

-         Manage ad-hoc, time-bound projects related to grant agreements with specific deliverables; support the monitoring of these projects and the Centre’s overall results framework.

-         Convene stakeholders around various thematic issues such as closing data gaps, improving access to disability data, or the application of new technologies in the humanitarian sector. 

-         Secure speaking engagements for Centre personnel and third-party coverage of the Centre’s work; represent the Centre at events and meetings.

-         Prepare blog posts, case studies, presentations and other promotional material to tell the story about the Centre’s work and our impact.

-         Participate in partner calls and team meetings as required.
