Peace and Security Centre

The UNOPS Peace and Security Centre (PSC) is a principal service provider in the field of mine action with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UNDP, UNICEF, Governments of mine-affected countries and other mine action partners. The Centre is responsible to administer, provide support and oversight of the day-to-day management of the Project Field offices, both according to the client requirements and in line with UNOPS rules and regulations. 

It is headed by the Centre Director who has the overall authority and accountability for the performance of the Peace and Security Centre on behalf of its clients.

The UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) supports the government Directorate of Mine Action Coordination (DMAC) in planning, managing and oversees of all mine action activities in Afghanistan.  It provides technical support to all partners and ensures the proper integration of mine action into wider humanitarian assistance and developmental programmes.

Afghanistan

With more than 10 years of experience in the country, the UNOPS Afghanistan office supports national reconstruction and development efforts by providing projects with goods and services - from stand-alone, one-off solutions to long-term management and capacity development support.  Based in Kabul, UNOPS in Afghanistan has sub-offices in every region of the country. The team implements projects in support of the Afghanistan National Development Strategy, in a wide range of sectors including infrastructure, education, environment and agriculture, and governance and rule of law.

Under the supervision of the ACAP III Project Manager, the Project Associate will be responsible for implementation assistance and coordination support for ACAP III. The specific responsibilities and duties include:

• Provide ACAP III activities implementation assistance and coordination supportunder close supervision of the supervisor
• Assist in the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the Government institutions capacity building component, particularly with skill development programs
• Contribute to project progress reports by providing quality and timely input on ACAP III project activities
• Monitor the work of the service providers ensuring compliance and agreed results
• Perform other relevant project tasks as requested

• Secondary school diploma (High school or equivalent) with 6 years of relevant experience is required; or
• First level university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) in Management, Business Administration, Public Relations or relevant fields with 2 years of relevant experience is required 
• Advance University degree (Mater degree or equivalent) in relevant discipline is an asset

• Minimum 2 years of experience in project support and/or project management is required 
• 2 years  experience using application of Ms Office software packages and good computer skills is required 
• 2 years in working in public relations is desired 
• Experience in the supporting  Government institutions capacity building / skill development programs is desirable 
• Experience working in a multi-national/cultural environment is desired  

• Intermediate in (speaking, reading and writing) English is required
• Intermediate in (speaking, reading and writing) Dari and Pashtu languages is required
