Communications Intern

UNOPS - East Africa Hub

Located in Nairobi, Kenya, UNOPS  East Africa Hub manages a growing portfolio of engagements, including associated strategic and operational risks. The East Africa sub-region currently consists of an established operations center in South Sudan, an office in Somalia and a portfolio of engagements. This portfolio  includes  transactional projects in partnership with the Nairobi based UN Agencies UN-Habitat and UNEP, in addition to multiple ‘operational’ projects in Tanzania, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya and several Atlantic and Indian Ocean island states

• Attend  meetings and contribute to communications strategy and event planning
• Assist with the coordination and logistical preparation for UNOPS KEOH events
• Liaise with diplomats, civil society organizations and media to update contact lists and  invite  them to UNOPS events 
• Attend events, take photographs and assist with same day coordination
• Write articles about the events as well as current affairs that involve UNOPS KEOH
• Upload articles on the UNOPS website
• Monitor UNOPS  presence in the media and keep track articles written about UNOPS activities

• Experience in writing, editing and producing materials for website content is an added advantage.
• Experience with content management systems and tools is desirable.
• Working knowledge of photo editing software, online video publishing and experience with flash is an added advantage.
• The ability to communicate simply, clearly and effectively with excellent written and editing skills is required.
• An ability to work under pressure is desired.
• An ability to work on a team is an added advantage

• Excellent command of English language is required, knowledge of another UN official language is an added advantage.
