Internship @ Stop TB Partnership , Multiple positions

UNOPS hosts the Stop Tuberculosis Partnership Secretariat (STBP) as of 1 January 2015, in Geneva, Switzerland. The vision of the Stop TB Partnership is to realize the goal of elimination of Tuberculosis (TB) as a public health problem and, ultimately, to obtain a world free of TB by ensuring that every TB patient has access to effective diagnosis, treatment and cure; stopping transmission of TB; reducing the inequitable social and economic toll of TB; and developing and implementing new preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic tools and strategies. The Stop Partnership is uniquely positioned to support the development and further implementation by partners of the current and future Global Plan, acting as a coordinator and catalyst for the range of partners engaged in the fight against TB.

Founded in 2001, the Stop TB Partnership's mission is to serve every person who is vulnerable to TB and ensure that high-quality treatment is available to all who need it. Stop TB partners include international and technical organizations, government programmes, research and funding agencies, foundations, NGOs, civil society and community groups and the private sector.

TB REACH

TB REACH is a multi-lateral funding mechanism testing and scaling up innovative technologies and strategies aimed at increasing the number of people detected with TB and linked to appropriate treatment. TB REACH provides fast-track and results-based financing with rigorous, external monitoring and evaluation (M&E) to produce strong evidence around specific innovative technologies/approaches, so other they can be scaled up by other donor agencies and/or national governments.

Country and Community Support for Impact (CCS4i)

The Stop TB Partnership’s Country and Community Support for Impact (CCS4i) supports initiatives related to the strengthening of community systems, ensuring community leadership in the TB response, and the implementation of Communities, Rights & Gender (CRG) tools and operational plans that help ensure a gender transformative, human rights-based and community-driven response in the fight against TB.

Strategic Initiatives & Innovative Financing (SIIF)

The Stop TB Partnership’s Strategic Initiatives & Innovative Financing (SIIF) team leads the development, roll-out, and implementation of ground-breaking initiatives and projects to bring the “Silicon Valley” mindset and innovations to the high burden countries and leverage multi-sectoral collaboration to address systematic barriers in the TB and global health space.

Global Drug Facility (GDF)

As a key initiative of the Stop TB Partnership, the Global Drug Facility (GDF) was established in 2001 to ensure access to quality-assured anti-TB drugs, diagnostics and other supplies by employing innovative business approaches, efficient knowledge management for evidence-driven leadership in market management, strategic procurement, and high quality procurement and supply services to client countries.

Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader and in close collaboration with the other team members, the intern will assist with the functions of Programme Officers. The interns will be exposed to various functional areas in accordance to the service lines performed at the UNOPS hosted Stop TB Partnership: his/her main tasks will be related to one of four work streams in the following areas:

Work Stream 1 - TB REACH

• Support the TB REACH Secretariat and M&E reviewers with survey design and interviews of key shareholders of the IPAQT (Initiative for Promoting Affordable and Quality TB Tests) initiative, including FIND (Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics), CHAI (Clinton Health Access Initiative), diagnostic manufactures and distributors, and private lab networks in Pakistan and India.
• Support country private healthcare analysis to adopt the TB REACH IPAQT Initiative.
• Support data collection to document the best practices and the lessons learned in the use of UAV in the DrOTS project
• Provide research assistance in the use of UAV technology in public health.
• Support the analysis of private healthcare provider mapping data from various TB REACH grantees.
• Assist the evaluation of artificial intelligence software for chest radiographs.  
• Assist in the documentation the experience and lesson learned from the TB REACH secretariat and grantees in the form of concept notes, publications, interactive presentations, media articles and other materials.
• Provide grant administration and coordination support as needed.
• Perform other assignments as assigned by supervisor.

• The intern will be part of the TB REACH team and will be learning on the job on a daily basis.
• The supervisor will allocate dedicated time in order to improve the intern’s understanding of the functioning of Stop TB Partnership and the UN development agency world in general.

Work Stream 2 - Country and Community Support for Impact (CCS4i)

• Review of Communities, Rights & Gender (CRG) assessments, particularly the trends, legal gaps, challenges and recommendation within Legal Environment Assessments (LEAs) and the unpacking and analysis of gender-related issues within Gender Assessments.
• Support Action Planning on CRG assessments conducted at the national level.
• Assist in the development of human rights-based interventions that can be integrated into Global Fund Concept Notes; support the development of an advocacy piece in this regard.
• Support the rollout of the Challenge Facility for Civil Society grant programme, including contributing to the call for proposals, supporting selection panel and the implementation of projects. 
• Support the development of National Stop TB Partnerships.
• Research on the relationship between human rights, TB and community health workers
• Planning for the engagement of celebrity TB Champions.

• Support the development of the governance and operational processes and policies for the Accelerator for Impact (a4i), including the creation of a trust fund.
• Support the development of the sourcing and due diligence processes and policies for a4i.  
• Support the development of concept notes, pitch decks, policy documents, grant proposals, and other materials.

• Offers experience working within the global health/international organization space and development finance sector. 
• Potential participation in missions to high-TB burden countries, engagement with senior level decision-makers and policy-makers, and participation in key opinion leaders/stakeholders meetings and calls.

Work Stream 4 - Global Drug Facility (GDF)

• Data entry and analysis of the information provided by manufacturers and suppliers into GDF regulatory tool.
• Correspond and liaise with manufacturers to obtain any missing data.
• Provide support to GDF’s Quality Management System including populating and updating data on the Quality Management System Software.
• Coordinate with various internal and external units to ensure all assigned tasks are on track
• Collect data and prepare briefs, analyses, business documents and presentation materials for the team.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Training opportunities

• Offers experience working within the global health/international organization involved in public procurement of health products. 
• Familiarization with the global regulatory frameworks that guide procurement of health products.
• Learning of the quality management system (QMS) that is the cornerstone of each ISO 9001:2015 certified organisations and use of related software.
• Understanding TB medicines quality requirements and manufacturers involvement in the implementation of national regulatory norms and linkages with QMS.
