Communications Officer - Editing and Animation (two retainer positions), Multiple positions

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has been active in Serbia since 2000, and the operations of UNOPS Serbia Project Office (RSPO) have since 2017 expanded to North Macedonia and Montenegro.

UNOPS has been a reliable partner primarily of the Government of Serbia, and later of the Governments of North Macedonia and Montenegro, in providing support for demanding socio-economic reforms and facilitating accession to the European Union.

Currently, the RSPO is implementing 12 projects focussed on sustainable socio-economic development, social cohesion, creating environment for employability, business and infrastructure growth, increased security, improved education, enhanced social inclusion either via enabling durable housing solutions or providing access to health, education and jobs for the most vulnerable population. All projects have good governance and gender equality as transversal themes. UNOPS projects are contextualised within the broader Sustainable Development Goals framework and objectives.

The Communications Officer - Editing and Animation, under the general guidance of and in close cooperation with the Communications personnel, will be responsible for editing and complete post-production of video content including motion graphics and subtitling to the predefined, high standards in order to produce material in the timeframe and formats agreed.

The Communication personnel will provide the selected incumbent with a general vision, but he/she will be expected to contribute to the creative story-telling process. Specifically, the selected incumbent will be in charge of the artistic direction of the video content and photography and the development of the final detailed storyboard, based on initial inputs provided by the Communications personnel. The selected incumbent takes full responsibility for the technical part of the post-production including sourcing of royalty-free music to accompany the video, if needed.

In particular, the selected incumbent will undertake the following activities/responsibilities:

• Produce, edit the short as well as finalise complete post-production of video content for consumption across a variety of communication channels including social media, web, events and broadcast;
• Conduct research and produce basic scripts and/or storyboards to inspire storylines and ensure common vision with the Project;
• Find compelling and resonant moments in long pieces of footage or find supplementary footage from multiple sources;
• When agreed produce transcripts of the first version of the requested video format for editing by the Project Communications personnel
• Edit multiple versions of videos according to inputs and for different languages and distribution channels;
• Ensure all editing cuts, changes, added elements appear seamless and natural and help the story flows smoothly and effectively
• Ensure final products are of the broadcast quality in terms of video editing, sound mixing with colour correction and grading applied according to the technical delivery standards of distribution channels
• Create and develop visual effects including but not limited to data visualisations through graphics, diagrams, maps, motion graphics, illustrations, 2D and 3D animation and incorporate them in the video material to enhance storytelling
• Upon finalisation of the product or exceptionally, when requested, in the process of production the editor has to submit open files, i.e. projects with all accompanying elements in the appropriate software at any stage of the editing process
• Label and submit/upload the footage (raw material) on the designated (unlimited) Google Drive;
• Organise assets in the designated Google Drive video library (templates, graphics, music, etc.) as agreed with Project personnel.

Input provided by the Project

• Relevant briefing materials about the Project and each of the projects beneficiaries/stakeholders necessary for filming including the clear brief on context and required outputs;
• Project brief and general guidance on requested product;
• Delivering or mediating in obtaining the needed video material;
• Translation needed for dubbing of the final version of films into English.

Copyrights

• All copyrights of the produced video material remain with the Project/UNOPS. The video material cannot be altered, sold or redistributed without the Project/UNOPS written authorisation.

Education 

• Bachelor’s degree preferably in Film, Film and Television Production, Dramatic Arts, Design, Fine Arts or similar is required; 
• Master’s or PhD/DA in a relevant discipline will be considered an advantage.

Work Experience 

• Minimum two years of experience in editing and post-production of versatile formats including testimonials, promotional content and similar is required.

Language Requirements

• Fluency in Serbian and English is required

Application Requirements

• Candidates who apply for this position are expected to submit, together with the application, a CV, cover letter and a personal work portfolio (a minimum of three and a maximum of six selected works) presented in a format of web link/s to individual or reel/s of video samples. The diversity of portfolio is preferable and should include at least one sample of animated infographics.

• Demonstrated proficiency in storytelling through video editing, animation, motion graphics and sound design; 
• Proficiency with After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and other professional editing software, applicable knowledge in the other Adobe Creative Suite software and computer literacy in G Suite, MS Office, Internet, Email;
• Knowledge of sound mixing, color correction, compression formats and video recording workflow; 
• Knowledge of trends and best practices for video on all major digital platforms (web and mobile); 
• Knowledge of local and national characteristics and scene in the AoR is an advantage
• Willingness to apply the same enthusiasm across all levels of assignments
• Excellent attention to detail and strong time and task management skills
• Ability to work quickly in a fast-paced work environment, both independently once direction has been given and as part of a collaborative team 
• Experience with best practices of video production for promotional videos; 
• Ability to work productively with various stakeholders including external vendors and agencies
