The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), like any organization, risks being continuously targeted by cyberattacks; and understanding how cybersecurity may affect the ability to deliver on its mandate is essential to be able to mitigate associated risks. The Information Security function is tasked to protect the highly geographically dispersed and diverse ICT environment of the organization from cyber attacks. 

In addition to the vast existing traditional infrastructure, the ongoing migration of services to cloud providers, as well as the increased reliance on the bring your own device (BYOD) strategy poses severe challenges that require additional resources, and new and innovative approaches to ensure the organization is adequately protected. This applies to areas such as threat management, incident detection and response, vulnerability management as well as organizational resilience.

The activities of the Information Security function are focused on security advisory, education and awareness, incident management, governance & policies, privacy management, and threat intelligence & mitigation.

The organisation requires the services of Information Security Specialists that shall be on retainer contracts to carry out short term work packages when required. 

Please note that the selected candidates who will successfully undergo the assessments will be offered a contract for 1 year (renewable) but proposed a work package only when a specific opportunity arises.

Under the overall supervision of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), the consultant will provide support to the Information Security function.

All work products delivered by the Consultant as a result of engagements are owned by UNOPS and shall be submitted to the CISO.

The Consultant will be assigned tasks based on the following factors: 

• The availability of the Consultant to complete the task
• The skill set of the Consultant and the applicability of those skills to the task required
• The location of the Consultant and the applicability to the task required

In carrying out this overall function, the Consultant will assist in/with:

• contributing to the formulation of information security policies, including associated documents such as standards and guidelines;
• assessing ICT disaster recovery plans (DRPs) for coverage and completeness;
• conducting cyberattack preparedness exercises or simulations;
• planning and delivering vulnerability assessments or penetration testing exercises;
• supporting the implementation of security tools and products;
• serving as a subject matter expert (SME) for secure application and infrastructure design, development and deployment;
• performing security architecture reviews; and
• undertaking third-party supplier privacy and information security audits.

• An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, information security or related field;

• A first-level university degree with a minimum of two (2) additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree;

• Certifications in Information Security or IT Risk Management (such as CISSP, GIAC, CRISC, CISM, etc.) are an advantage.

Contract duration: One year initially, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability
