UNOPS supports partners to build a better future by providing services that increase the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of peace building, humanitarian and development projects.  Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement and infrastructure services to a wide range of governments, donors and United Nations organizations.

The New York Service Cluster (NYSC) supports the United Nations Secretariat, as well as other New York-based United Nations organizations, bilateral and multilateral partners in the delivery of UNOPS mandate in project management, infrastructure management, and procurement management

The Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) supports diverse partners with their peacebuilding, humanitarian and development operations. It was formed by combining the following portfolios: Grants Management Services (GMS), UN Technology Support Services (UNTSS), Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio (DSIP) It provides Services to partners' programmes that are designed, structured, and managed with a global perspective and primarily serving partners that are headquartered in New York.  The SDC has a footprint of approximately 125 countries.

The United Nations Security Council in Resolution 2245 adopted on 09 November 2015 established the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS). UNSOS replaced the United Nations Support Office for AMISOM (UNSOA), established in 2009.

The United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) is mandated to provide a broad variety of administrative and logistical support services to its clients, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), the Somali National Army (SNA), and a few others.

Considering the diverse logistical support services delivered by UNSOS to meet its clients operational requirements in Somalia and the new management paradigm shift for results,  UNSOS identified that existing training function operating capabilities  established in cooperation with UNOPS in FY18/19 needs to be further strengthened to address governance, risk, managing for results and compliance to effectively streamline its operations and project activities through the enhanced capacity building and training support. Furthermore, the cooperation with UNOPS has been recognized as establishing best synergies and leverage of UN resources to execute UN Information Communication and Technology vision and strategy pertaining to support for enhanced capacity to provide relevant and tailored training requirements to AMISOM.

Given the scale and scope of the objectives and tasks of AMISOM (ATMIS), It is anticipated that UNSOS’ training and capacity building support will continue to be crucial to assist the African Union in mobilizing the full complement of specialized capabilities within the scope of the UNSOS mandate. Thus, UNSOS will continue with its training and capacity building concept with a focus on training requirements that will enhance AMISOM (ATMIS) & SSF joint operations, and at the same time ensure that the requirements are in compliance with the SG’s Human Rights Due Diligence Policy (HRDDP). To this end, an additional UNOPS personnel to be responsible for the conduct and monitoring of AMISOM (ATMIS) & SSF training requirements geared towards joint operations is being sought.

This is a position in UNOPS for supporting projects carried out for or in UNSOS.

The incumbent of this position will be a staff member of UNOPS under its full responsibility.
