The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners' peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world. The overall supervision of the role will be under the responsibility of UNOPS HQ Communications Group (CG) in Copenhagen, although the incumbent is also expected to translate materials for other groups. CG is responsible for producing and disseminating information about UNOPS to external audiences, as well as facilitating the flow of information within the organization, ensuring efficient information delivery and broad sharing of knowledge and best practices. The French Translator Retainer will be home-based and will report to the CG Communications Manager - Translation. The incumbent will be responsible for translating a wide range of internal and external documents and assisting the CG translation team in their goals when translating material for the organization. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
● At the overall direction of the Communications Manager - Translation, translating a wide range of documents, including external publications, reports and corporate policies, as well as legal documents, Executive Board documentation and technical publications related to project management, procurement and infrastructure, among others.
● Producing accurate and self-revised translations in the target language, ensuring that translations are equivalent in meaning and style to the original content. Editing texts in target language to ensure accuracy and that their presentation complies with UNOPS standards.
● Reviewing and proofreading translated materials from external translators (e.g. translation companies) and evaluating the quality and accuracy of their outcome, suggesting improvements or changes when required.
● Ensuring timeliness, undertaking a rapid turnaround for documents and materials that need immediate use, especially corporate announcements or materials requested by the Executive Office. Translating and revising high-visibility content or that of a confidential nature.
● Using the most appropriate range of terminology and commonly established equivalents of professional or technical terms and references as requested. When necessary, liaising with subject matter experts inside the organization to ensure accurate use of terminology.
● When requested, using computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, in order to streamline processes, gain efficiencies and maintain consistency throughout publications. Developing termbases and updating translation memories. Keeping abreast of developments in the AI field and other new technologies in relation to translation.
● Providing content translation for social media channels as requested. Perform other related duties as required.
The incumbent is expected to check his/her email on a regular basis and commits to being able to reply to any job requests within a reasonable amount of time.

Experience:
● At least 2 years of translation experience from English to French is required.
● Experience in the context of the UN or another international organization is an asset.
● Strong Google Suite skills (Docs, Slides, Sheet, etc.) an asset.

Language Requirements:
● Native-level speaker of French and perfect command of English required.
