Communications Associate - Digital and Content (Retainer)

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners' peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world. Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement and infrastructure services to a wide range of governments, donors and United Nations organisations. With over 6,000 personnel spread across 80 countries, UNOPS offers its partners the logistical, technical and management knowledge they need, where they need it. By implementing around 1,000 projects for our partners at any given time, UNOPS makes significant contributions to results on the ground, often in the most challenging environments.

IT Project services for Partners (ITPS)

Under the UNOPS Geneva Office, the ITPS project provides IT support services to Hosted Entities as well as other UNOPS offices. The IT project support services range from website development and redevelopment, website migration and maintenance, database development and maintenance, security and risk assessment etc. It also includes drafting IT equipment specifications, terms of references, technical participation for procurement, supporting the supervision and certification of outputs delivered etc.

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Communications Associate will be responsible for the content management of the ITPS websites as detailed below : 

1. Collaborate with the respective communications team and support relevant team focal points to create an annual plan for publishing content on the website.

• Identify the communication milestones for this year (important events, presentation of new projects)

• Create a content publishing plan that takes into account the above milestones as well as a constant updating of the web content.

• Contribute to keeping the content publishing plan up to date in case of unforeseen events.

• Ensuring that the content publishing plan is met within the timeframe agreed with the client.

2. Support in the creation and updating of web content.

• Analyze the needs of the teams to improve existing templates or create new ones to display content on the website.

• Support Creating new page templates and/or updating existing templates to fit teams’ needs.

• Keep up to date with new ways of displaying content on other reference websites, make recommendations..

• Ensure that the necessary resources are available for the creation of content within the website (content, images, documents, etc.).

• Create/Update web pages with content provided by communications team

• Adaptation of assets to include them within the web content (resizing of images, PDF optimization)

3. Provide support to the teams for any request related to the content updates.

• Help on how to use the control panel to include content

• Training sessions to familiarize users with the tool

• Help in the creation of the content itself

a. Education 

• Completion of Secondary/high-school education is required as a minimum. 

• A university degree (Bachelor or Masters) preferably in IT, Digital studies or another relevant field is highly desirable, and may substitute for some of the required years of experience.

b. Experience     

• A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in marketing communications, online content publishing and optimization is required. Professional Experience in HTML, CSS and image optimization for websites is required.

• Within the 6 years, a minimum of 2 years of experience in Drupal CMS is required.

• Within the 6 years, a minimum of 2 years of experience in Wordpress CMS is required.

• Knowledge of Google SEO would be an advantage.

• Knowledge of Website usability would be an advantage.

• Fluency in English is required. 

• Knowledge of other UN languages such as French or Spanish is highly desirable.

Terms and Conditions 

• For staff positions only, UNOPS reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post. 

• For retainer contracts, you must complete a few Mandatory Courses (they take around 4 hours to complete) in your own time, before providing services to UNOPS. For more information on a retainer contract here.
