The UNOPS Peace and Security Centre (PSC) is a principal service provider in the field of mine action with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UNDP, UNICEF, Governments of mine-affected countries and other mine action partners. The Centre is responsible for administering, providing support and providing oversight of the day-to-day management of the Project Field offices, both according to the client requirements and in line with UNOPS rules and regulations. It is headed by the Centre Director who has the overall authority and accountability for the performance of the Peace and Security Cluster on behalf of its clients.




The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) established a regional support office, the Entebbe Support Base (ESB) in November of 2016.  This office provides regional support to various UNMAS programmes namely but not limited to Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and the Abyei Administrative Area. The areas of support include Procurement, Logistics, Human Resources, Finance and Contracts Management.




Under the direct supervision of Support Services Officer (Logistics) and overall guidance of the Head of Support Services, the Logistics Assistant will provide assistance in ensuring efficient logistics and asset management services, focusing on achievement of the following results:
  • Assist in the implementation of a coherent logistical supply system in accordance with UNOPS PSC and mission systems;
  • Assist in processing the incoming and outgoing movement of personnel and equipment as required by the ESB in accordance with UNOPS, ESB and mission rules and regulations;
  • Assist with data capturing for inventory in line with UNOPS PSC Asset Management Standard Operating Procedure (SOP);
  • Assist the logistics team in overseeing the vehicle pool for providing transportation services as required by the office, and to meet logistical requirements;
  • Prepare monthly vehicle trip summaries;
  • Assist to oversee maintenance and servicing of vehicles with mission workshop and update details of services into vehicle files;
  • Assist with any procurement of items as directed by Procurement SSO or Logistics SSO;
  • Ensures the safe and proper storage of all UNOPS PSC assets at ESB as per the UNOPS ESB Warehouse management SOP;
  • Perform other related duties as required.



Education
  • Secondary education (High School Diploma or equivalent) combined with five (5) years of relevant experience is required OR 
  • A First level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in Supply Chain, Logistics, Procurement or other relevant field combined with one (1) year of relevant experience.

Experience
  • Relevant experience is defined as experience in logistics, supply chain, inventory control, procurement, asset or storage management. 
  • A minimum of 1 year of UN experience in logistics or asset management is required.
  • Experience with UNOPS is desired.
  • A valid national driver’s license (operating manual transmissions) is required.
  • Experience in the use of computers and office software including; MS Office is required.
  • Experience of UNOPS ERP systems (oneUNOPS) is desired.
  • Experience working in a multi-national /cultural environment is desired.


Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English (speaking, writing and reading) is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is desired.
