Partnerships Analyst (intern)

The Brussels Liaison Office (BLO) is part of the Partnerships Practice Group (PPG) which supports UNOPS efforts to build closer ties with partners across the full spectrum of UNOPS activities. By forging strategic relationships and working with partners, both in the field and at headquarters, PPG seeks to not only ensure high partners satisfaction with UNOPS project implementation and support, but also to integrate best practices and innovative solutions from experienced non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the private sector into UNOPS operations. Based in Copenhagen, PPG has active liaison offices in New York, Geneva, Brussels, Washington DC, and Nairobi.

Under the overall guidance of the Head of the BLO, the Partnerships Analyst Intern will have the following responsibilities:

• Conduct research on donor and market trends;
• Conduct internal and external data analysis on current and potential new partners; 
• Update and maintain partner profiles according to changing/shifting donor priorities, areas of focus on country strategies; 
• Monitor EU funding opportunities to identify possible new business acquisition opportunities; 
• Support updating UNOPS communication materials targeted toward European partners; 
• Support in the preparation of partnership development trainings and guidance materials; 
• Monitor, research and follow-up on relevant documents and policies (press releases, working documents; other relevant online documents from the European Institutions’ and other websites);
• Help organize events (and/or UNOPS presence at existing events) to showcase UNOPS achievements to relevant and potential partners in Brussels (e.g. the European Development Days); 
• Identify best practices and lessons learnt and document such findings in a standardized format; 
• Perform other tasks as required. 

In performing her/his tasks, s/he will work closely with the Head of the BLO, other personnel, as well as staff, and interns in HQ and field offices.

Training components and learning elements

The intern will be exposed to working in an international and culturally diverse environment where s/he will be in a unique position to gain an understanding of the dynamics of working in a multicultural setting and the challenges and opportunities involved therein.

The intern will also gain key insight into the workings of the United Nations system as well as the interplay between donor-financing, partnership-building, and the political complexity involved in working at a United Nations organization.

Participation in missions or training courses

The intern will have access to diverse knowledge sharing mechanisms such as targeted webinars, articles and meetings across UNOPS. The intern will also have the opportunity to benefit from other learning opportunities such as for example UN Department of Security Services Security in the Field certification.

Education

Currently enrolled in, or have recently completed (minimum 3 years prior to applying), a Bachelor/Master’s Degree in a relevant area.

The preferred candidate would have a combination of degrees including one in development studies, public policy and administration, international relations, economics, business, communications, engineering, or other related areas.

Experience

The ideal candidate would have a combination of private and international public sector experience, including in the following areas: 

• Strategic planning and development
• Marketing
• Data analysis
• Market research and analysis
• Client/donor research
• Capture planning
• Programme and project acquisition/development
• Competitor analysis
• BCG and SWOT analysis
• Official Development Assistance (ODA) analysis
• The candidate should also have knowledge of, and experience with, Microsoft Office programs, particularly with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Knowledge of SharePoint and database software, an asset.

Languages

Fluency in English is required.

Fluency in other UN languages, in particular French, is an asset.

Contract level: Intern

Contract duration: 6 months

Interns are responsible for arranging their own travel and securing any necessary visas.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one-time lump sum payment of 500 USD to support intern relocation costs. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel, insurance coverage and any necessary visas.
