Systems Administrator - Unix/Linux

• Install, configure, maintain, administer and support Unix/Linux operating systems and services such as DNS, DHCP, File Server and other server applications.
• Administer user accounts, printers and print servers. Install, configure, maintain, administer and support Unix/Linux servers.
• Perform software updates, Shell/Perl/Python scripting, testing and support. Perform 2nd level desktop troubleshooting.
• Support and administer Unix/Linux server applications: Apache/Tomcat Web Server, MySQL
• Generate reports to determine performance issues arising from all relevant factors such as hardware, software and network. Further, monitors application and analyses system logs to evaluate security vulnerabilities.
• Perform complex hardware and software configuration tasks such as creating standard server and desktop images.

Education:

High school diploma. Associate’s degree in Computer Systems, Engineering, Information Systems or relevant certification is a plus and may replace for some of the minimum years of the required experience

Experience:

·         Minimal 5 year experience in installing, configuring, managing and administrating Unix and Linux server Operating Systems in large and complex environments is required.

·         Strong working knowledge of Unix/Linux server administration is required.

Desirable:

·         Proficiency in Unix/Linux system security, DNS, NFS, NIS, LDAP

·         Experience in writing shell scrips in Perl/Python

·         Knowledgeable in LAN,WAN and TCP/IP,SMTP,POP/IMAP protocols

·         Experience with a project management methodology such as PMP, PRINCE2, etc.

·         Knowledge of the ITIL framework.

·         Experience in customer services and the ability to provide a professional interface with the user community. Good interpersonal skills.

·         Attention to detail.

·          Proven ability to work under pressure.

·         Ability to work outside normal working hours if required

·         Industry recognized certifications are an asset.

Language:

Fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
