Application Architect

This position is located in the Enterprise Application Centre-NY, Office of Information and Communications Technology, Department of Management. Under the overall supervision of UNOPS Senior Programme Manager, the incumbent reports to the Chief of the Architecture services unit. 

Within delegated authority, this position will be responsible for the following duties: 

• Assist the unit chief in reviewing a technical architecture for requested applications.
• Perform the assigned application architecture projects and services.
• Guide the clients if necessary to complete a new application service request in accordance with guiding principles for enterprise application deployment in UN Data Centres.
• Develop APIs/services for integrating various applications with the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB).
• Assist in configuration and support of ESB platform.
• Assist in managing the Digital Rights Management (DRM) operations and work as the Level 2 support.
• Monitor the status of the DRM application and troubleshoot operational issues in a timely manner.
• Provide statistical reports for DRM application.
• Act as the backup administrator for the Official Document System (ODS).
• Keep abreast with all the services provided by OICT as defined in the ICT Service Catalogue.
• Provide support in the Application Rationalization project and maintenance of the global UN application portfolio.
• Work on additional ad-hoc architecture tasks with the guidance from the unit chief.

Qualifications:

The Application Architect and Application Administrator must have:

• A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance of computer information systems or related area.
• Working experience in multi-tier application architecture and service-oriented architecture.
• Working experience in developing integration services, preferably Java and JBoss Fuse platform.
• Working experience in maintaining and operating the applications.
• Good understanding of content solutions and rights management.

Desirable for this position:

• Knowledge of Application Architecture, Information Security, infrastructure technologies, server virtualization, storage provisioning, data backup, and computer networking.
• Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Highly analytical and able to think critically in order to flag potential system issues.
• Able to multitask and work well under stress.
• Excellent teamwork skills.

Education:

Advanced university degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
