The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) was established in 1990 and mandated by name in United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES/45/181.The WSSCC Secretariat is hosted by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and aims to accelerate the achievement of sustainable sanitation, hygiene and water services for all people, with special attention to the unserved poor, by enhancing collaboration and coordination of all sector stakeholders. The WSSCC Secretariat is located in Geneva, Switzerland. More information on WSSCC can be found on the website at www.wsscc.org.

Under the guidance of the Deputy Executive Director, the HGP leads and implements the Council’s  strategic advocacy initiatives at global, regional and national level.  Promoting the role of sanitation and hygiene in SDG 6.2 and related sustainable development goals to all stakeholders with the most immediate, evidence based information from the WASH sector, the HGP informs the policy debate around the Sanitation and Water for All building blocks and collaborative behaviors  positioning the WSSCC in the WASH sectors as a platform for discussion, a champion for sanitation and hygiene, a convener and a broker. while promoting the innovative approaches and relevance of WSSCC.   Managing the GP team and fostering an environment of collaboration that extends across the council, the HGP empowers staff to ask the new questions and seek the new solutions that advance the reach, relevance and demonstrable results of the council, showcasing it as a source for bringing sector partners together around important sector issues aimed at accelerating progress towards SDG 6.2.
