Associate Geospatial Information Officer (Image Analyst)

The Associate Geospatial Information Officer (Image Analyst) will carry out his/her tasks within the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) /Geospatial Information Section of the United Nations.

The Associate Geospatial Information Officer (Image Analyst) will be responsible for the following duties:

• Perform analysis based on a variety of sources such as satellite imagery, aerial photograph, geospatial information, internal memos and reports, open source intelligence and others;
• Perform raster data processing;
• Perform vector data edition;
• Perform day-to-day liaison work with clients to understand and articulate short and medium term requirements;
• Develop innovative geospatial products and visuals to convey the results of the analysis;
• Maintain geodatabase and catalogue of imagery post-processed derivative works.
• Conduct peer-review and quality control of GIS and imagery products prepared by other colleagues.
• Document workflows and processes.
• Perform other tasks as required. 

• Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Cartography, Geography, Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), or related fields. 
• A first-level university degree  (Bachelor's degree) in combination with an additional two (2) years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

Required:

• A minimum of  2 years of experience in GIS, remote sensing, imagery analysis, geospatial analysis or related fields.
• A minimum of  2 years of professional knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop (v10), ERDAS Imagine, relational databases (MS SQL Server).
• A minimum of 1 year of professional experience as an imagery analyst, preferably in a military or humanitarian context.
• A minimum of  2 years of professional experience in statistical analysis using enterprise office software (e.g. MS Excel, MS Access).
• A minimum of 1 year of professional experience of digital cartography in a GIS environment is required.

Desirable:

• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional experience of digital cartography in a GIS environment.
• Basic  graphics software skills (e.g Adobe Suite) to prepare final touches of the digital cartography prepared in a GIS environment.
• Python scripting, preferably in ArcGIS environment.
• Infographic and Graphics experience using enterprise graphics software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).

• English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this job opening, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required
• Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

The SDC’s services include grants management, development and special initiatives support, and technology support to the UN and UN agencies.
