With ongoing United Nations development and broader international humanitarian reform, a specific focus has been placed on collective action, system coordination, and as a key tenet of success, leadership.  The Global Executive Leadership Initiative (GELI) is an innovative program for senior field leaders from across the system that, over time, will contribute to improved responses and drive collective action that saves lives of crisis-affected people.  GELI is intended to be a multi-donor initiative through which senior field leaders will engage in a highly interactive cutting-edge curriculum with perspectives never before introduced into the humanitarian-development-peacebuilding context; senior field leaders will also have a unique opportunity to participate in peer exchange with other senior field leaders from across these pillars.  GELI will offer a platform for senior field leaders across the international system to enhance their drive and impact, manage complexity, deliver results, and lead and engage across the humanitarian-development-peace and security spectrum, taking into account the global socio-political and economic trends that are influencers.

The GELI Secretariat is hosted by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and supports implementation of the GELI programme. The GELI Secretariat is located in Geneva, Switzerland. Under the guidance and direct supervision of the GELI Executive Director, the Special Assistant to the Executive Director is responsible for quality of administrative support services provided within the GELI Secretariat, specifically supporting the GELI Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director. He/she is responsible for day-to-day secretarial/administrative/coordination operations of the GELI Secretariat. The Special Assistant to the Executive Director promotes a collaborative, client-focused, quality and results-oriented approach.  The Special Assistant to the Executive Director works in close collaboration with the support services, programme and project teams locally and with UNOPS HQ colleagues, other GELI platforms, and offices of key GELI stakeholders to successfully deliver administrative services.
