The Project Manager acts on behalf of the Project Board to manage the project on an ongoing basis during the Implementation Stage. The main responsibility of the Project Manager is to ensure that the project outputs are delivered within the specified project tolerances of time, cost, quality, scope, risk and benefits. He/she is expected to meet the organization’s performance and delivery goals.
Project Information:
UNOPS is a global organization with personnel in most areas of the world, however the current IT infrastructure is on premise, based in Copenhagen. This means that personnel around the world need to connect to a single data center, which can be far away from them. Moving to the cloud provides a solution that supports the organization in terms of application resilience, accessibility, and delivers faster application experiences across the globe.
As part of the recently adopted IT strategy for UNOPS, one of the key principles is therefore Cloud First where UNOPS fully commits to embrace cloud computing and where cloud based solutions will be the standard for all new, and upgraded, IT Corporate solutions. The adoption of the Google Cloud Platform is therefore an important strategic step for UNOPS towards IT maturity where the above-mentioned accessibility and resilience are key priorities in addition to significantly decreasing security risks and cyber threats. A key part for a successful implementation of the IT Strategy and one of its key principles will therefore be to ensure that the current on-premise solution is moved to the Google Cloud Platform.
A proof of concept (PoC) has been conducted in order to establish technical and financial feasibility for lifting and shifting (L&S) the IT infrastructure from current data centers to Google Cloud Platform. Based on the PoC, the SLT has approved moving forward with the migration of current on-premise IT infrastructure to GCP.
The move includes highly business critical applications and as such UNOPS is looking for a highly skilled l project manager who is familiar with the technical complexities of cloud migration and possesses experience overseeing and managing large-scale cloud migration projects.
The project team will be composed of the following roles:
Responsible for the delivery of a full technical migration and project plan as well as day to day management of the project.
Responsible for the UNOPS specific technical infrastructure advisory on the GCP project
Responsible for the execution of the migration (Lift & Shift)
While the Infrastructure Architect will provide important technical advisory on UNOPS Infrastructure, the GCP Project Manager will based on his/her knowledge and expertise provide detailed technical advisory on Cloud Migration and the sequence in which the project must be organised. The GCP Project Manager is moreover accountable to ensure that the migration plan includes tangible milestones including but not limited to: testing, migration, operation, governance and management to ensure a successful migration of UNOPS IT Infrastructure to the Cloud
Under the daily management and oversight of the GCP Project Manager, the Infrastructure Team Lead and the Infrastructure team will be responsible for the execution of the migration plan (Lift & Shift)
