“UNOPS plays a critical role in providing management services for our
lifesaving, peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development
operations. I have seen many examples of how these activities help suffering people
in troubled parts of the world.”
-Ban Ki-moon, United Nations
Secretary-General
UNOPS mission is to expand the capacity of the UN system and its
partners to implement peacebuilding, humanitarian and development
operations that matter for people in need. Working in some of the world’s most challenging
environments, UNOPS vision is to always satisfy partners with management services that meet
world-class standards of quality, speed and cost effectiveness.
By assisting UN organisations, international financial institutions,
governments and other development partners, UNOPS makes
significant, tangible contributions to results on the ground.
UNOPS employs more than 6000 personnel and on behalf of its partners
creates thousands more work opportunities in local communities. With its
headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark, a network of five regional offices and a further 20
operations and project centres, UNOPS oversees activities in more than 80 countries.
The incumbent is responsible to abide by security policies,
administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security
Management System and that of UNOPS. UNOPS is committed to achieving a
truly diverse workforce.
Sustainability is a key part of
UNOPS strategic plan for 2014-2017. Therefore, improving HSE performance by
preventing or mitigating adverse impacts on the environment will support
delivering projects in a sustainable manner. UNOPS has developed an Environmental
Management System (EMS) aligned to the ISO 14001 standard to help identify and
mitigate environmental impacts of its
operations. An Occupational Health and Safety management system has also been
developed in line with the OHSAS 18 001 standard with the intention of preventing workplace injuries and
illnesses.
With these systems UNOPS intends
to manage its environmental and social risks and impacts throughout the life
cycle of projects in a systematic manner that leads to continuous improvement and development of local
capacity. Therefore, UNOPS intends to extend the application of HSE to all its
operations and embed HSE as a part of normal value creation in the UNOPS
business cycle.
