Chief of Security

Reporting to the Director, Shared Service Center (SSC), the Chief of Security is responsible for :

• Ensuring that UNOPS security support is included in all aspects of the programming process at regional and country office level as well as throughout individual project life cycles, from project identification, planning, budgeting, implementation monitoring, evaluation and project closure – with emphasis at pre-engagement;

• Strengthening the security arrangements of UNOPS offices globally in line with UNSMS policies.

• In addition to UNOPS global responsibilities, s/he will also be the UN Chief Security Adviser for Denmark in accordance with the UN Security Management System (UNSMS) Policy Framework.

The primary objective of the Chief of Security is to advise and assist UNOPS’ senior management, Practices, Groups, Regional offices, Country offices and UNOPS personnel  globally on security related issues; to reduce the risk to UNOPS personnel and at the same time enabling UNOPS programme delivery throughout.

Under the direction and supervision of the Director, SSC the Chief of Security is responsible for the further development and review of UNOPS security policies, technical content and best practices, annual work plan, training, compliance with UNSMS policies, and effective administrative and operational support to field security operations.

• Master’s degree in management, international politics or equivalent or formal multi-year education in security management, such as military or police senior Command and Staff College qualification with command experience at senior level,

• Current relevant Professional Certification is an advantage, e.g. in Security Management, Physical Security, Investigations, Project Management, etc.

• At least 10 years of responsible experience in security management, law enforcement or national military service, of which at least 5 years should have been with the UN Security Management System and at least 2 years experience from a crisis environment while serving in the UN system

• For retainer contracts, you must complete a few Mandatory Courses (around 4 hours) in your own time, before providing services to UNOPS.
• The incumbent is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS.
