The Project “Support to European Integration of North Macedonia” is designed to support North Macedonia's accession negotiations and successful management of the overall European Union (EU) integration process. The Project is funded by Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), Swiss Government through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Ministry for European Affairs (MEA) and implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
Within this context, while building on the momentum created by the predecessor, the Project will enhance the institutional, technical, and administrative capacity of the Government to conduct EU accession and will contribute to enhanced communication of the EU accession negotiation process to the public. The overall objective will be achieved through the delivery of two coherent Results.
The Project focuses on effectively communicating the EU accession process to the public, fostering transparency, inclusivity, and informed public dialogue through outreach, civil society engagement, media support, and youth involvement. Through this intervention, The Project will support MEA in structuring its communication activities to enhance public awareness of the EU accession process and its benefits and to increase transparency and stakeholder engagement at both central and local levels. Additionally, the Project will launch a grant scheme to support CSOs and media in promoting EU integration efforts through multimedia storytelling projects and public awareness campaigns. Young journalists will receive training and mentorship, with opportunities for peer learning and exchange programmes. Furthermore, it will engage youth in the EU accession process by establishing partnerships between MEA and educational institutions, awarding grants for youth organizations, and organizing debates, competitions, lectures, and internships. These initiatives will empower civil society, strengthen independent media, and ensure an inclusive dialogue on EU integration.
