Background - WAMCO

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners' peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world.  Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement and infrastructure services to a wide range of governments, donors and United Nations organizations.  

Located in Dakar, the UNOPS office in Senegal has developed a strong working relation with the Governments of West Africa and international partners over the years. It provides technical support in strategic development areas including elections; procurement and related capacity building; environmental protection, as well as infrastructure rehabilitation and development.


Training components and learning elements

UNOPS highly values interns’ contributions and realizes the importance of learning during an internship program. The internship program will include on the job training and exposure to various Human Resources management tools. The intern will have access to a large offering of online training on the comprehensive UNOPS intranet and opportunities to communicate with other country offices.

UNOPS encourages the intern to raise specific questions regarding learning opportunities before and during the internship.

Terms and Conditions

UNOPS will provide the intern with the following:

  • The incumbent shall receive a monthly stipend designed to contribute to the cost of daily expenditures such as commuting and meals, if s/he is not receiving funding through an internship program externa to UNOPS, or from a specific institution.
  • If mission travel is undertaken, Daily Subsistence Allowance, in accordance with UN policy will be paid.
  • The internship comes with no expectations of future employment with UNOPS as a direct result of the internship.
