Photographer (retainer) , Multiple positions

In close cooperation with the Communications Group and the UNOPS team in country, the photographer will visit pre-selected project locations to provide high-quality photography and videography services. This may also include the filming of an interview.

The photographer should demonstrate a client-oriented approach, with a high level of cultural sensitivity, tact and cultural awareness. The photographer ensures the effective and efficient provision of services, full confidentiality in all aspects of the assignment, and the timely follow-up on deadlines and commitments made.

To demonstrate UNOPS mission of helping people build better lives through the provision of high-resolution images of individuals, families, groups, and/or events at project locations, with the aim of providing human-interest images to later accompany written content on the region in particular and UNOPS work in general.

• To promote the humanitarian, development and peace and security priorities of UNOPS and its partners, through recording high-quality video footage of broadcast quality, provided in raw/editable formats, aligned to pre-planned storyboards or identified narratives.

• Willingness to travel to complex and challenging environments to capture UNOPS support to humanitarian, peace and security, and development projects.

• Follow UN guidelines with regard to respecting the dignity and human rights of all individuals captured on film or camera, working alongside local communities, and provide material to promote UNOPS values of transparency and accountability.

• Provide shooting notes detailing basic information necessary to expand/elaborate on stories in mixed media environments.

• Capture each photograph with specific details related to geographical location, name of person (for portraits), activity and any other relevant information, for easy identification and location. Captions should be embedded in the jpeg images and also provided in a separate text document.
• Provide at least 100 high-quality, colour-corrected photographs (and possible footage), not more than six (6) days upon completion of assignment, via an external hard drive.

• The photographer will provide all necessary photographic equipment in order to perform his/her assignment.

Specific requirements for photos:

• Colour.
• In electronic form on flash-drive.
• Format of electronic pictures: JPEG.
• Colours: minimum RGB, maximum CMYK.
• Resolution: high (minimum 300 dpi scale up to A1 size.
• Pixel dimension: 1600x900 px.
• Travel and accommodation will be arranged by UNOPS.

Expected deliverables:

• Photographs – all colours, with related cut lines.
• “Best of” photographs that have been taken during the event/mission (approximately 30-50).
• Photographs to be provided in an external format (i.e. hard drive).

Education:         

• A first-level university degree in communications, journalism, fine arts, media studies or a related field is required. 
• An advanced University degree in a relevant field may be accepted and can compensate for certain years of experience.
• Formal training in still photography is an asset.

Experience:       

• Nine years of accumulated work experience in shooting images in difficult environments, visual storytelling, interviewing subjects, photographic editing, is required 
• Experience working in the Middle East is a significant asset.
• Experience with drone photography and videography (including 360 video and virtual reality films) is an advantage

Language Requirements:            

• Fluency in oral and written English is required.
• Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
