Under the overall
guidance of the Chief Executive Officer, the Communications and Outreach Officer
is responsible for developing creative content, and advancing a compelling and
consistent narrative, for a range of external stakeholders, around the
Defeat-NCD Partnership’s programme, operational approaches and results.
In doing so, the
Communications and Outreach Officer proactively liaises with a range of
internal and external stakeholders to develop tailored communications products for
communicating the strategy, activities, and impact of the Defeat-NCD
Partnership to the outside world (press, stakeholders, decision-makers,
influencers, funders) through a variety of communications channels, including
print media, mass media, social and digital media.
S/he will also foster a
dynamic collaborative network by sharing information to, and between, the
Defeat-NCD Partnership members and enabling increased exchange and
collaboration among the membership.
The
Communications and Outreach Officer’s responsibilities will include, but not be
limited to the following:
- Develop and manage
outreach and communications strategies, activities and work plans related
to the Defeat-NCD Partnership’s programmatic and operational areas.
- Develop high
quality written communications as well as produce a range of editorial
content and communications material, including blogs, press releases,
articles, information sheets, case studies, brochures, newsletters,
reports, and key messages.
- Proactively
produce and place timely Op-eds, including co-authoring some of them with
key stakeholders.
- Lead the
development of the Partnership 'brand' and work with designing principles
and guidelines for all of Defeat-NCD materials and products to ensure
their consistency.
- Work with other
Secretariat personnel to quality assure all external reports and important
written products before they are disseminated.
- Update the
Partnership's website and managing its content so as to increase
visibility and connectivity with our key audiences.
- Organise and coordinate
the Partnership's interactions with the media, including providing
background information, keeping track of media mentions, and proactively
creating media relations with key journalists and other influencers and
act as a spokesperson to help put non-communicable diseases on the top of
the public agenda.
- Keep track of
events and conferences of interest to the Partnership that might help
expand the Partnership's outreach, and develop key messages and corporate
material for the participation of key senior Defeat –NCD Partnership
personnel at these events.
- Research new
avenues for content distribution and promotion.
- Support the
preparations for campaigns, including the production of background
materials, including media and public engagement plans.
- Create guidance
and tools to implement communications and outreach activities and measure
their effectiveness.
- Ensure the
Defeat-NCD Partnership social networking (e.g. Facebook, Twitter,
LinkedIn) and other online media platforms are actively used for information
sharing and promotion – resulting in an upward trend in the analytics.
- Manage and oversee
the execution of digital initiatives as well as monitoring and analysis of
digital trends and their impact on the Defeat-NCD Partnership’s brand.
- Identify new opportunities
and innovative practices on the use of multiple media and social and
digital platforms.
- Research potential
new partners and supporters and reach out to them.
- Support in
communicating the achievements of Essential Supplies and Distribution Facility
to demonstrate value for money, results, achievements and impact of the
Defeat-NCD Partnership technical assistance; and to develop and review
technical, policy and outreach materials aligned with the Defeat-NCD
Partnership strategy to improve the visibility of the Defeat-NCD
Marketplace with countries, stakeholders and global partners.
- Collaborate with
colleagues within the Secretariat, the broader Defeat-NCD Partnership, and
external influencers, to establish the Partnership’s leadership role in tackling
non-communicable diseases operationally at the country level. Identify,
build and maintain partnerships and influence agenda setting for resource
mobilisation initiatives.
- Proactively
working on anticipating the needs of the Chief Executive and other
Secretariat colleagues while working autonomously in a fast-paced
environment that requires high flexibility and a commitment to results.
Perform any other work-related duties and
responsibilities that may be assigned by the Chief Executive.
