The
Secretariat is currently looking for a Policy and Strategy Specialist to support
and strengthen the Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration that underpins the SUN
Movement. The Policy and Strategy Specialist will play a key role in
translating the political commitment of SUN Movement actors into coherent
action in-country, aligned with national priorities and needs. The post-holder
will support a range of processes - from project management oversight, to
strengthening the capacity of national Multi-Stakeholder Platforms for
nutrition – as well as advising the SUN Movement Support System[1] on
capacity building and improved multi-stakeholder collaboration at both national
and global levels.
As a member
of the Strategic Management Team, reporting to the Director of the Secretariat,
the post holder will work with stakeholders across the Movement, from the
grass-roots to the highest political level. He/she will be a proactive,
opportunistic and flexible colleague, fostering cross-team collaboration and
encouraging innovative solutions to the challenges faced by SUN Countries. With strong communication skills – both oral
and written – the post holder will build and maintain effective understanding
and support productive exchanges..
The Policy
and Strategy Specialist will be asked to produce high-quality written and oral
briefs for members of SUN Networks, the SUN Coordinator, SUN Secretariat, and
external audiences. Experience of
working at country level, in training, capacity building and knowledge
management/sharing is an advantage. The post holder may travel periodically to
SUN countries, as well as to relevant global and regional events.
Like all in
the SUN Movement, the Policy and Strategy Specialist must always be vigilant
that the SUN Movement’s principles are upheld everywhere and at all times.
The
successful candidate must be flexible and open to take on additional tasks as
required to meet the evolving needs of SUN Countries.
Reporting to the
Director of the SUN Movement Secretariat, the Policy and Strategy Specialist
will:
a) Advise SUN Movement actors on multi-stakeholder
collaboration and capacity strengthening, catalysing projects when necessary
- Advise
and support the efforts of the SUN Movement Secretariat, SUN Networks and SUN
Technical Assistance providers to strengthen capacity in SUN Countries;
- Lead
projects to catalyse multi-stakeholder collaboration and strengthen the
capacity of SUN actors to scale-up nutrition action in-country; and monitor
progress of capacity-strengthening activities, including their impact on
improved multi-stakeholder collaboration.
- Maintain
an overview of Technical Assistance in the Movement, and work with colleagues
in SMS, the networks, and TA providers to ensure this is coherent with country
demands, and well-coordinated across the Movement;
- Shape
and lead knowledge management initiatives, and collaborate with SUN knowledge
management partners, to ensure that SUN country experiences and learning are
available to all SUN countries;
- Advise
on the best strategic focus of the SUN Movement Pooled Fund (USD 16 million) to
support strengthening of multi-stakeholder collaboration for nutrition at
country level.
b) Coordinate the Secretariat’s relationship with the four SUN
Networks
- Build
and maintain strong relationships with SUN Network Facilitators and members.
Organise regular Network Facilitators’ calls, meetings and retreats; support
preparation of briefing materials and any other documents as required for
dissemination to the Networks.
- As
recommended by the Mid-Term Review of the SUN Movement, assist the SUN Movement
Support System to improve its collective functioning and promote greater convergence
especially at all level.
- Ensure
that opportunities for Networks to support countries are identified and acted
on;
c) Contribute to the delivery of the SUN Movement strategy and
Roadmap as a member of the Strategic Management Team
- Advise
and assist the Coordinator of the SUN Movement and the Director of the SUN
Movement Secretariat in areas of responsibility, as required.
- Collaborate
with other members of the Strategic Management Team’ on high priority projects such as the SUN Movement Global Gathering;
- Contribute
to framing the future strategic directions of the Movement including the development
of a vision and new strategic framework beyond 2020.
d) Partnership Building and Representation:
- Lead
the Movement’s efforts to promote multi-stakeholder partnerships for better
collaboration based on trust, including by promoting the Movement’s approach to
preventing and managing Conflict of Interest;
- Represent
the interests of the SUN Movement and its members to a variety of audiences,
engaging stakeholders in an appropriate, credible and respectful manner;
- As
needed, work closely with members of the SUN Movement Secretariat to produce
messaging, briefing notes, talking points and strategic communications;
- Assist
in the establishment of strategic partnerships, facilitate dialogue, and design
collaborative approaches with stakeholders.
