Communications Specialist - Multiple Profiles (Multimedia, Graphic and Web), Multiple positions

The Cities Alliance is a global partnership promoting the role of cities in poverty reduction and sustainable development. Cities Alliance activities are guided by its 2018-2021 Strategic Plan, with a recalibrated business model combining a Global window for normative work and a Country/City window for operations across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the MENA region.

Cities Alliance is seeking Communications, Graphic, Multimedia and Web experts to expand the visibility, outreach and branding of the organisation. The Communications, Multimedia, Graphic and Web experts will provide targeted consultant support on a need basis to the Cities Alliance Communications team. The support is sought across a wide variety of activities related to Cities Alliance communications activities, dissemination products as well as its digital platforms. The Communications, Graphic, Multimedia and Web experts will report to the Cities Alliance Communications Officer.

• Content Creation/Story Telling: Production of editorial content (writing, editing and proofreading) around urban and international development issues and the Cities Alliance programmatic work. Content may include media contents, feature articles, web news, blogs, social media materials, project/programme profiles, speeches, press releases, reports etc.

• Website Management and Maintenance: Support web design, functionality update and troubleshooting of Cities Alliance website, based on a Drupal content management system. This may include specific assignments on the look and feel of current design as well as various updates on the functionalities, display, and usability of the site.

• Graphic Design: Develop concept and design of communications materials, including brochures, reports, publications, flyers, posters, banners, both for printing and digital distribution in accordance to Cities Alliance and donors requirements; deliver creative and innovative ideas and layout for electronic and web-based materials including presentations and infographics; improve and edit art work, photos, charts and other graphic elements; provide layout and design for merchandising items.

• Audio-visual Production: Production of high quality, creative and appealing multimedia materials such as podcasts, videos, photography, VR and animations in support to Cities Alliance public communications. The expert should be able to:  prepare concepts, scripts and storyboards for multimedia pieces; conduct interviews; apply visual storytelling skills to create multimedia pieces aligned with latest media techniques, web trends and production technologies; post-produce multimedia stories, including editing, design of video graphics, titles, music, and illustrations.

• Advanced degree in Communications, Journalism, Multimedia/Digital production, Graphic Design, Web management, International Development, Political Science, or other related disciplines.
• A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) with additional 2 years of relevant working experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced university degree.
• Technical/professional licence may be considered in lieu of the universty degree with additional 6 years of relevant experience, or Technical/professional diploma with additional 9 years of experience.

• At least 5 years of professional work experience in at least one, or in a combination, of the four assignment areas (content creation/story telling or website management and maintenance or graphic design or audio-visual production) is required;
• Previous experience with international development, or related to urban development would be considered a strong asset;
• The consultant needs to show documented evidence, work samples and certificates on the assignment area(s) s/he is applying for. 

• Contract type: International Contractor Agreement
• Contract level: Level 2
• Contract duration: One Year (Retainer up to 20 working days) initially with a possibility of extension
