UNOPS has delivered a number of procurement projects in Palestine, including in Gaza and the West Bank. These include “Procurement and delivery of urgently needed essential drugs and medical consumables for Al Makassed Hospital in East Jerusalem” (funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 2020), “Emergency procurement of critical medical equipment to support the Government of Palestine for enhancing their response to the Coronavirus outbreak” (funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 2020), “Multi-sectoral humanitarian assistance to mitigate the adverse effects of COVID-19 and ensure uninterrupted basic services to Palestinians in Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem” (funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 2021), “Programme for COVID-19 Crisis Response Emergency Support” (funded by JICA in 2021), and “Addressing urgent needs through the provision of essential services to Palestinians” (funded by the MInistry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 2023).
Under this new project, UNOPS will support the implementation of the JICA Programme for Emergency Recovery in Palestine. In close consultation with project beneficiaries (Palestinian institutions) and in coordination with the JICA team, the Project Manager will manage the procurement of essential equipment to improve solid waste management, health services and water supply services, as per agreement with the Palestinian counterparts and JICA.
The Project Manager will work under immediate supervision of UNOPS Head of Programme and will supervise experts in the field of solid waste management, health services and water supply services who support the project under retainer contracts. He/she will work closely with the procurement unit and other relevant units and stakeholders, to ensure that materials are timely procured and delivered to the agreed beneficiaries.
