The South Sudan Operations
Centre (SSOC) is based in Juba, and is responsible for UNOPS’ operations across
the country. SSOC is currently focused on supporting partners’ response to the
ongoing humanitarian crisis, while also contributing to longer term development
where the opportunities and funding exist. SSOC’s portfolio is diverse, and
includes construction of roads and bridges, river ports, airstrips, teacher
training facilities, health facilities, and also provision of camp management
services to key partners throughout South Sudan. SSOC also manages design and
delivery of infrastructure advisory services/studies, e.g. a comprehensive road
sector study and business plan development as well as a river transport study.
South Sudan is a volatile
and fragile state with low levels of service provision and in the middle of a
protracted political crisis. The UNOPS portfolio and delivery structure require
regular review and adaptation to ensure they remain fit for purpose and address
emerging requirements of the people of South Sudan, the Government and the
development stakeholder community.
The SSOC Director represents UNOPS on behalf of the Hub
and Regional Directors in South Sudan.
The Hub and Regional Directors provide general direction and guidance
and establishes the geographical scope of the Operations Centre. The Director will direct and manage all
operations under SSOC that includes liaison and engagement development
activities and delivering timely and cost effective services for sustainable
results by partners and stakeholders
