Afghanistan
With 20 years of experience in the country, the UNOPS
Afghanistan Operational Hub (AFOH) supports national reconstruction and
development efforts by providing projects with goods and services; from
stand-alone, one-off solutions to long-term management and capacity development
support. Based in Kabul, UNOPS AFOH has
project offices in every region of the country. The team implements projects in
support of the Afghanistan National Development Strategy, in a wide range of
sectors including infrastructure, education, environment and agriculture, and
governance and rule of law.
UNOPS strategy for Afghanistan and surrounding countries
under its auspices is aimed at providing maximum support to the Governments and
peoples of countries within the designated area of responsibility, through
delivery of projects and services in line with the governments’ own priorities.
The UNOPS Afghanistan Operational Hub (AFOH) has been
established as an organizational mechanism to deliver a range of projects for
which UNOPS has been designated as the implementation agency. At present, UNOPS
AFOH is implementing a number of projects in a range of sectors including
infrastructure (roads, hospitals and irrigation systems) development, and
capacity building to various ministries, on behalf of the host governments, in
particular the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GoIRA), and
the wider donor community.
The functional objective of UNOPS AFOH is to deliver
projects in an efficient and effective manner, to achieve the development
outcomes sought by host governments and the donor community, where capacity
building is always considered and encouraged. The aim of UNOPS AFOH is to
provide implementation services to the host governments, the donor community
and partner agencies in the reconstruction and development of the countries
within AFOH’s region. In doing so, UNOPS aims to exceed client expectations in
the delivery of quality services throughout the country.
With the new UNOPS global structure and
establishment of Afghanistan as an Operational Hub, the scope of responsibility
has increased to cover Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
