Water and Environment and Climate (WEC)
The Water, Environment and Climate (WEC) portfolio under the UNOPS Austria Multi-Country Office has built strong partnerships and has effectively been managing a portfolio of 490 million USD over the last 15 years to support key initiatives with fund management, project implementation and administrative support.
WEC effectively operationalizes partners' agendas with global approaches, as well as regional and country specific activities focused on climate action, protection and conservation of the environment. Partners profit from WEC’s ability to operationalize and/or scale up their important substantive agendas, including in support of key multilateral environmental and climate agreements, such as the Paris Agreement, the Cartagena Convention as well as the Sustainable Development Goals.
Initiative for Climate Action Transparency
The Initiative for Climate Action Transparency was established in 2015 at the Paris Conference of the Parties (COP) to support implementation of the Paris Agreement and its Enhanced Transparency Framework.
ICAT provides countries with tailored support and practical tools and methodologies to build robust transparency frameworks needed for effective climate action in sync with national development priorities. The projects ICAT supports relate to building or enhancing transparency systems for mitigation actions; building a monitoring approach for adaptation actions; implementing and further delivering nationally determined contributions; assessing the impacts of policies related to climate action; integrating and/or aggregating climate actions at the subnational level and for non-state actors; and identifying and increasing domestic benefits and synergies from enhanced climate action.
ICAT offers a range of methodologies and guides to assist countries. The Initiative works with over 50 developing countries ranging from large countries, like China, to small islands, such as Antigua & Barbuda.
ICAT is managed by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the ICAT Director, the incumbent will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative functions, providing support to the Director and the ICAT team, including the management of the ICAT office in Bonn, and for conducting background research on aspects related to the operations of ICAT and potential partnerships, ensuring high quality and accuracy of work.
